Wallace C. Carlson, age 84,
passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Saint Mary's of Erie. Born in Dellwood,
Pa., on July 28, 1926, he was a son of the late Edwin C. and Elizabeth (Penvose) Carlson.
A former resident of West 38th Street, he lived in Erie since 1953. He joined the United
States Army in 1944, serving in the Philippines and as a sergeant with the 24th Division,
19th Infantry Regiment in Japan. He was discharged as a disabled veteran on July 24, 1947.
He worked at Copes-Vulcan / Electrolux for 34 years, retiring in 1982. He loved hunting
and his hunting camp, fishing, golfing, cookouts, and was an avid gardener. Wallace was a
member in good standing of American Legion Post 494, Girard, for over fifty continuous
years.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice M. (McHugh) Carlson, in 2004;
by two daughters, Barbara K. Salvage .
and Jacqueline "Jakee" George;
a son, Paul M. Carlson;
a granddaughter, Julie M. George;
a brother, Edward Carlson;
and sisters, Mildred Rolls, Betty Kell, and Emma Jean Lewis.
Survivors include his brother, George Carlson, of Erie; sisters, Mary Ellen Battitori and
Erma King, both of DuBois, Pa.; a brother, James Carlson, whom he raised as a son, and his
wife, Nora, of Perry, Ohio; son-in-law, Thomas George, wife Barbara, of Fairview Township;
daughter-in-law, Toni Carlson, of Hartstown, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, numerous great and
great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Friends may
call Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595
West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a service there Tuesday at 10:30
a.m. with Msgr. Joseph Wardanski. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society , 2115 West 38th St., Erie,
