NEW MIDDLETOWN - There will be services at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the First Covenant
Church for Raymond M. Carlson, 84, who died Monday evening, April 30, 2012 at Hospice
House.
Ray was born July 18, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Dwight G. and Anna Peterson
Carlson of Boardman, Ohio.
He attended Boardman School and graduated in the class of 1945. After graduating, he
enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II, being discharged with the rank
of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He then attended Youngstown College and graduated form the
Pittsburgh Technical Institute.
He was employed by the Republic Steel Corp. as an Industrial Engineering Supervisor in the
Youngstown District for 20 years and in the Warren Mahoning Valley District for 14 years.
He was later employed by the Springfield Local School District for five years.
Ray was a member of the First Covenant Church in Boardman, Sulgrave Lodge No. 696
F.&A.M., the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Youngstown, Al Koran Shrine of
Cleveland, the Youngstown Shrine Club, Republic Steel Salaried Retirees Club and the
American Legion Post No. 888. He was a former member of Struthers Fraternal Order of the
Eagles-Aerie No. 2536.
Ray's wife of 58 years, the former Erma M. Stickel, whom he married April 12, 1952,
died Jan. 1, 2011.
He is survived by his son, Donald L. Carlson of New Middletown, Ohio; his daughter, Linda
Rae (Anthony) Luscre of Stow, Ohio; his brother, Gary E. (Nancy) Carlson of Canfield,
Ohio; his sister, Jane C. Sandin of Boardman; his grandchildren, Aaron (Heather) Luscre
and Erica Luscre; and his great-grandchildren, Zoey Rae Luscre and Holden Andrew Luscre.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, James A. Carlson.
Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anstrom-Velker Chapel, 75 E. Midlothian
Blvd. and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church, prior to the service.
