Licking County, Ohio - DeElda Irene Carlson Trexel passed away in her home at SharonBrooke
on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at age 96.
She was born September 2, 1914 in Gilmore City, IOWA to the late Anna M. (Ells) and John
H. Carlson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years, Clarence A.
"Trex" Trexel and her brother, B.F. Carlson. She will be missed by her loving
family and many friends.
She and her husband came to Newark, Ohio in 1937. They joined the First Methodist Church.
Dee was active in the choir, Chancel Guild, the Rebecca/Miriam Circle, as an acolyte
mother and was a founding member of the Candlelighters Club.
Dee was an active member of the Research Club since 1938 and the Coterie Club since 1977.
In the Trudeau Guild, she served as a TB sanitarium volunteer in the 1960's. She
founded Newark's Beta Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in 1938.
She was active in the Roosevelt School PTA and in the Little League Association.
Before coming to Newark, Ohio she served on the secretarial staff to Fred Maytag of the
Maytag Company in Newton, IA. In Newark, Ohio she served as a librarian at the Newark
Public Library from 1964-1969. From 1970-1978 she managed Trexel's Corner Camera Shop.
She is survived by her three children, Ann and Joe Corby of New Bern, NC, Kent and Penny
Trexel of Charlottesville, VA and Clark and Christine Trexel of El Valle de Anton,
Republic of Panama; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Dave and Kelley Corby
and their daughter Lucy of Albuquerque, NM; Dodd and Candice Corby and their children,
Jack, Rex and Ginger of Plymouth, MA; Brian Trexel of Altoona, WI; Jeff and Katherine
Trexel and expected baby of Alexandria, VA; and Erik Trexel of Portland, OR.
She is also survived by her sister, Anna Mae Carlson Kramer and several nieces and
nephews.
A funeral service for DeElda Irene Carlson Trexel, of Newark, OH will be held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, OH
with Pastors Mark Chow and Barb Sholis
officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 7, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at
Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home.
Memorial donations can be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box
729, Newark, OH, 43055.
