Marjorie Mead Carlson .
of Erie,CO,PA,
died Monday, October 25, 2010
at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born in Erie, Pa., a daughter of the late Percy H. and Grace Bury Mead. Marjorie
was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and Lasell College in Auberndale, Mass. where
she was a member of the rowing crew. In her youth she loved horseback riding. Following
her studies, she worked in Personnel at the Lord Corporation in Erie during WWII. She
married the late N. Albert Carlson Jr. and became a homemaker who was very involved in her
church. Marjorie was a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where she
also served on the Pre-School Board. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout and Brownie
leader for many years. She was a member of the Carrie T. Watson Garden Club, the Alpha Xi
Delta Fraternity, the Junior League of Erie, Inc., Presque Isle DAR, Erie Counsel of
Republican Women, Board Member of the Erie Homes for Children and Adults and an honorary
member of the Erie Club.
She also had a great love of antiques.
In addition to her parents
and spouse,
she was preceded in death by a sister- in- law, Esther L. Knight. Survivors include a son,
Mead A. Carlson and his wife, Dr. Dorothy of Fairview
and a daughter, Melinda S. Carlson Esq. of Columbus, Ohio. She also leaves her nephew,
Gregory Knight and his wife Susan of Erie and a niece Melanie and her husband Richard of
Naples, Fla. Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West
Tenth Street, Erie, PA 16502 on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and are
invited to a service on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of the
Covenant McBrier Chapel with Reverend Stephen Morse officiating. Burial at Erie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645
West 8th Street Erie, PA, 16505-5097, the VNA Hospice 2253 W. Grandview Blvd. Erie, PA,
