This is in reply to the June 26, 2006, posting by AJULLMAN(a)aol.com to the RootsWeb Orange
Co., New York, mailing list titled "Jemima and Joseph and Samuel Hall 1775 1855
Carlough children 1855 Lancaster," which can be found archived at the following

I have located the family of Joseph CARLOW and Ann M., including children Rachael, Sarah
and Nicholas, on the following census: 1850 United States Federal Census, Monroe, Orange
Co., NY, dwelling 329, family 329.
I have not yet found Joseph in any other records, so I am not sure whether
"CARLOUGH" or "CARLOW" was the correct spelling of his surname.
However, Joseph did name his son Nicholas and Nicholas was a common name in the CARLOUGH
family.
Nicholas and his descendants did use the "CARLOUGH" spelling. I have not yet
been able to locate any records for Ann or Rachael after 1860. Sarah possibly died before
the time of the 1860 census because she does not appear on the following census with the
rest of the family: 1860 United States Federal Census, Warwick, Orange Co., NY, pg. 313,
dwelling 2231, family 2294.
Note that both Rachael and Nicholas are listed on the 1860 census with their
stepfather's surname of HALL. Rachael's name is almost unrecognizable, with a
spelling that looks something like "Cachul Aleado" HALL.
