Dear Murph,
My Carlan's hail from County Donegal. They are related to the Boyce clan which also
hails from county Donegal. In fact they had this thing about intermarriage. Rather creepy
but true. Our family has an eye defect that is found only when there have been cousins
that marry that are too close in relation. Ours was James Carlan and Jennie Boyce. They
were first cousins. I am not sure if the spellings have anything to do with where the
Carlon, Carlin, Carland and so on, came from but you might look in County Donegal.
My papa McEnerny use to sing a little song to tease my grandma about where her family came
from, it went like this.
We hail from County Donegal,
Were we eat potatoes...skins and all. It is a wonderful memory.
Try looking in Donegal.
Good to hear from you.
Annemarie
