I also have Carlon ancestry from Rankin Illinois. Philip Carlon is my ancestor. My
understanding from grandfather's stories is that Philip, Hugh, and Turlough Carlon, 3
brothers came to America together. The story is that they worked in the East in a hotel
until a scandal involving the hotel owner's daughter led them to seek their forturne
further west.
The famous Irish bard is Turlough O'Carolan, which matches what grandfather was told
from the time he was young. Check this out online. There is a festival held in Ireland
every year in celebration of him.
Here is some information from the 1880 census of Iroquois county. The second entry is
from the household of Thomas Carlon who, I understand to be the son of Philip.
