Dear Jo,
My side of the Carlon family supposedly moved from Ireland to either North or South
Carolina, then onwards to Arkansas.
This is what my memory tells me anyways. I have seen old records over the internet
showing who I believe are my great-great grandfather and his dad buying land in Arkansas.
The land was in the northern part of the state.
I have relatives in Hattieville, Arkansas and around that area. There are quite a few
that I have met or know of. My grandmother's brother (Uncle O.V.) used to have a deed
in his house that was signed by Abraham Lincoln. It was for one or two hundred acres of
land there in Arkansas. The family still owns the land as far as I know. My great Uncle
O.V. Beeson
was running a small herd of cattle on it before he passed away.
Do you paint houses or artwork? I could paint a house, but the Carlon side of me is not
much of an artist.
I have seen the Carlon name on bulk bakery items (such as flour) in a grocery store I used
to work at. I have also seen the name on electrical conduit that is widely used here in
the U.S.
One time I was sent a flyer through the mail asking me if I wanted a book on the Carlon
family. I didn't buy the book, but the flyer said that there was something like 500
Carlons
in our country. I don't know if that included both living and dead.
My dad (Harold Van) was the oldest of four Carlon brothers. My grandfather (Olen) was one
of 8 or 9 children. Olen's parents both died in the flu epidemic of 1918 (I beleive
that was the year.) Olen died around 1956 from a stroke or aneurysm. One of my uncles is
named John. The great-great grandfather (or his dad) who moved from Ireland was also
named John if I am not mistaken. The name John is so common that it makes it kind of hard
to track past relatives that one is directly descended from.
I myself am an identical twin. My brother and I are 29 years old. I have heard tale that
twins run in the Carlon family. There are at least two other sets of identical twin
Carlons. I met a couple of little girls (they are probably teenagers by now) that were
twins there in Arkansas.
Good Luck on your research!
You can just call me your long lost Cuz' (short for cousin:) out in California.
