Hi Joanne:
I believe our Carlons went from Ireland to England, but I know very little about them
in the U.K. I know that they were Protestants. According to The Atlas of Lawrence County
& State of Pennsylvania (1872), Joseph Carlon, Sr. was an early immigrant to this
country, who had ten children, one of whom died while crossing on the ocean. He was born
in Ireland, married Elizabeth Caldwell there, and died in Westmoreland County,
Pennsylvania. However, it is not known when they actually emigrated.
What I do know is that they had nine children in the U.S., two in Maryland and the
rest in Pennsylvania. Joseph died about 1812 and was buried in what is now Lawrence
County where he had a farm. Most of his family, including his son William (my great great
grandfather), settled there.
We know much more about the family in the U.S., but have been unable to find a
definite link in the U.K. I would be interested in hearing more from you about your
family directly.
