This is in reply to Joann WITT's (jwitt(a)chipsnet.com) Oct. 30, 1999, posting to the
CARLOCK Board titled "Carlocks in IL". This is also my line. My maiden name
was CEARLOCK. George W. CARLOCK's (ca. 1779 - ca. 1862) descendants used both the
spellings "Carlock" and "Cearlock" (pronounced like
"Carelock"). I have not yet positively identified George's father, but all
indications are that George is somehow descended from David's son Frederick who lived
in Mecklenburg Co., NC, probably as a grandson. Two possible fathers for George are the
David CARLOCK who was in both Mecklenburg Co., NC, and Warren Co., KY, and the Henry
CARLOCK who was in Rutherford Co., NC. I do not yet have a great deal of information
about either of these individuals.
David lived near George in Kentucky, as also did the family of John CARLOCK (s/o Lemuel,
Hanchrist, David). John's son William, b. 1814, Warren Co., KY, also migrated to the
Ramsey, Fayette Co., IL, area. Some descendants of John's son George Washington
CARLOCK (1812 - 1862) also used the spelling "Cearlock". Descendants of this
second line of CEARLOCKs can be found in the area near Marlow, OK.
Henry can be found in Rutherford Co., NC, records from 1782 to 1800. Mecklenburg Co., NC,
1787 court records show that Henry was awarded money for the orphans of Christopher
LANDIS. Christopher LANDIS was the grandfather of George's wife Rachel LANDERS.
Christopher was also a direct ancestor of President Harry S. TRUMAN, making all of
George's descendants distant cousins to Harry TRUMAN.

TRUMAN's ancestry, see the archives of the RootsWeb GOODNIGHT list.
