Message Board Post:
This is a follow-up to my June 7, 2007, posting. George Mankey CARLOCK (1878 - 1959) was
listed as a boarder in his future mother-in-law Rachel Catherine HORN GARRETT's
household in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma) at the time of the
1900 census. George married Rachel's daughter Mattie Belle GARRETT (1884 - 1973)
sometime after the census date of June 30, 1900.
The seven children referred to in my earlier post were probably Rachel's children.
George and Mattie had five known children: Jewel J. CARLOCK (female), b. 1905 - 1906,
Oklahoma; Ruby Fern "Fern" CARLOCK, b. 1909 - 1910, Oklahoma; George Howard
CARLOCK (10 Dec 1914 - 28 Aug 1937); Mary Maurine "Maurine" CARLOCK, b. 1918 -
1919, Oklahoma; and Cherokee Lee "Cherry" CARLOCK, b. 1922 - 1923, Oklahoma.
George, Mattie, and their son George are all buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita,
Craig Co., Oklahoma. George's obituary which can be found on his Find a Grave
memorial page lists his surviving daughters in 1959 as Mrs. J. G. LAWRENCE of Torrance,
Los Angeles Co., California; Mrs. R. D. BEVAN; Mrs. H. K. HOLT of Berkeley, Alameda Co.,
California; and Mrs. J. V. DIXON of Welch, Craig Co., Oklahoma.
Mattie Belle GARRETT CARLOCK died in Alameda Co., California. She was probably either
living with or near her daughter Mrs. H. K. HOLT at the time of her death.
Can anyone match any of the four daughters with their married names?
