Can anyone identify Marion CARLOCK, b. ca. 1871, who died at age 11 on the
farm of C. C. CAMPBELL near Comanche, Comanche Co., TX, Feb. 18, 1882?
Could he be related to Lucinda Jane CARLOCK (d/o John CARLOCK, George
CARLOCK/KERLOCK/CERLAUGH, Frederick Cornelius CARLOCK, David
GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), who d. 1893 in Brown Co., TX? According to
the following map, Brown Co., TX, is next to Comanche Co., TX. (See the
upper left-hand corner of the "South-Eastern" Texas map.)
http://www.census-online.com/links/TX/
Lucinda married George Washington SHEFFIELD, who died in Brown Co., TX, in
1894. George and Lucinda's daughter Lucinda Ida SHEFFIELD m. Augustus
Turner CAMPBELL, Feb. 14, 1886. According to page 621 of the book "History
of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, Augustus and
Lucinda had a son named Charles Clay CAMPBELL who was born in 1899, long
after the death of Marion CARLOCK in 1882. Could Charles have been named
after an older relative named "C. C. CAMPBELL?"
Some of Lucinda's other relatives are also known to have migrated to Texas.
Lucinda's brother Thomas Tillman CARLOCK/CARELOCK, Sr., migrated to TX in
1863. He lived in Leesburg, Camp Co., TX, and d. July 10, 1873, in
Pittsburg, Camp Co., TX. (On the above-mentioned map, Camp Co., TX, appears
on the far right-hand side of the "Northern" Texas map.) Thomas's daughter
Margaret Elizabeth CARLOCK m. Thomas Lofton CAMPBELL, Apr. 26, 1880, several
years after the birth of Marion CARLOCK who d. in 1882.
Lucinda's brother Cornelius CARLOCK/CARELOCK had a son named James Jackson
CARLOCK, b. 1844, who died in Colorado, Bastrop Co., TX, in 1928. James's
wife Sarah died in 1900, in Belton, Bell Co., TX. (Bell Co., TX, is two
counties southeast of Comanche Co., TX, as seen on the "South-Eastern" Texas
map mentioned above. Bastrop Co. is two countied south of Bell Co., as
shown on the same map.)
According to page 621 of "History of the Carlock Family", Lucinda's brother
Samuel/Simon Green CARLOCK had two sons, Marcus DeWitt CARLOCK and Thomas
Green CARLOCK, who both appear to have lived in Winnsboro, Wood Co., TX.
(Wood Co. appears on the right-hand side of the "Northern" Texas map
mentioned above.)
Lucinda also had a cousin Samuel A. CARELOCK, Jr.. (s/o Samuel A.
CARLOCK/CARELOCK, Sr., George CARLOCK/KERLOCK/CERLAUGH, Frederick Cornelius
CARLOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), who migrated to Smith Co.,
TX, by 1865. Samuel's daughter Isabelle and son-in-law (William or A.)
Jackson "Jackson" WALLACE had migrated to Starrville, Smith Co., TX, in
1856. Samuel's sons lived in North Carolina and Louisiana, so it is
unlikely that Marion CARLOCK who d. in 1882 would have been one of his
descendants. (Smith Co. appears on the top of the above-mentioned
"South-Eastern" Texas map.)
