Trying to find out Mary parents' names. According to Carlock book she is the daughter
of Catherine Carlock. Mary Carlock's marriage license online. She is also listed as
Mary Elizabeth Whitman on rootsweb. Book also states this Catherine was also married to
an unknown Whitman. Why is there no record of the name of the Whitman she supposedly
married? When Catherine Carlock died in 1801 she left property "to my son Matthew
Whitman". Could she have been his step-mother? Why would she be using her maiden
name for her will instead of Whitman? Not usually done in the 1800's. This same
Catherine Carlock had a law suit regarding property in PA which she left to Matthew in her
will.
Was Catherine Carlock ever married to a Whitman? Or another woman named Catherine? Other
than the Carlock book is there anything to proof Catherine Carlock was married to a
Whitman.
My scenario is as follows: A Catherine b. abt. 1725 married a Unk Whitman had son
Matthew (m. Stalnaker) and Barbara (m. Jamison in book also) Catherine was widowed and
remarried to an unknown Carlock. They had Mary who m. Bradley. Matthew had a brother
named George. This is stated in Rev. War documents. Matthew subed for his brother George
during Rev War, thus enabling Matthew to draw a pension. George's last name is not
mentioned it could be Whitman or Carlock or possibly even something else.
Is there any hereditary diseases in Carlock lines?
