Subject: John Carlock of KY (not John D. Carlock)
I am trying to put together a family group sheet for John Carlock who
often appeared in the same Simpson Co., KY, tax list as John D.
Carlock, proven son of David Carlock of Warren/Simpson Co., KY.
Although "the book" says he is the son of Lemuel Carlock of VA, it is
speculation. Someone told me that they have something in writing that
he came with his uncle David to KY. What was the source of that
statement?
While in NC recently, I saw that many of the Carlocks did not leave
wills. However, I was not in the actual Mecklenburg/Cabarrus Co., NC,
courthouses, so do not know if that is actual fact. I was just able to
look through numerous books in the historic Salsburg, NC, genealogy
library. Anyway, that is all to say that, since not many wills have
been found, John Carlock could have been the son of any of David
Carlock's brothers.
Or John could have been a son of David himself. Since son John D.
always went by the name John D., I wonder if they called him J.D., then
had another son named John whom the called John. My grandfather gave
the middle name of Pink (short of Pinkney?) to three of his children.
He just liked the name!
Anyway, I need to create a GEDCOM for John b. 1772, d. 1833 Simpson
Co., KY.
By the way, tho his tombstone says b. 1772, I think he was b. 1770
based on the fact that he was in the Warren/Simpson Co., KY, tax list
in 1819. He would have to be 21 years old to be taxed. However, it
may be that John D. Carlock added his initial when John (w/o initial)
came of age and the two men needed to be distinguished. John D. Always
gave his middle initial, even in Missouri.
So, back to the GEDCOM, can someone send me your "report" of John
Carlock of Simpson Co., KY? listing marriage, children, etc.? Louise
Pietrus, his descendant, has already been a great help.
Oh, and Louise, what is the name of the family traced to VA that is
used for the reasoning that John was the son of Lemuel?

Subject: John Carlock's birth year
Well, what I just said about John Carlock's birth year being 1770
instead of 1772 doesn't make sense. He was already in his 40s by this
time. I got it from some documentation, but don't remember. So forget
I said it!
