Subject: [HAM] Alexander C. Hamilton b abt 1803 in SC (I think) married Nancy Callahan
SC/GA families close. Hamilton, Callahan, Carlock, and Couch (probably
Laurens, SC to Walker Co, GA to AR (Yell and Conway at least) with a very
interesting connection to famous Texan
Alexander C. Hamilton (abt 1803 SC - abt 1850 possibly GA)
+ Nancy Callahan (abt 1810 GA - ?)
1. Archibald Newton Hamilton (abt 1837 - aft Mar 4, 1862 day enlisted in CSA
from Walker Co, GA)

3a. Nancy F. Carlock (?-?) married on dec 21, 1888 to John Morris
(probably in AR)
(There is a really confusing, to me, issue here because there is
recorded another Mary Ann (Polly) Hamilton (born abt 1825 in GA - 1898
Conway Co, AR) marriage date Nov 1, 1844 TN probably Marion Co, which is
just across the border from Walker Co, GA)
children
John W. Carlock (Oct 1849 - ?) married Mahala Caroline
(Carrie) Callahan Aug 10, 1871 in Yell Co, AR (next to Conway Co, AR) (see
below)
Child died as infant was Sarah Carlock (about 1872)

5. Lucinda M. Hamilton (about 1846 Walker Co, GA - ?)
6. William Alexander Hamilton (nov 1849 Walker Co, GA - 1913)
7. Martha Caroline Hamilton (Dec 26, 1852 Crawfish Springs, Chicamauga,
Walker Co, GA - Aug 22, 1936)
This family is rather interesting to me for several reasons. From a
historic perspective, I think Nancy Callahan Hamilton is the sister of Capt.
James Hughes Callahan, Texas Ranger and famous Indian fighter who was the
first to cross the Rio Grande into Mexico after bandits and Indians being
protected by Mexicans. Callahan Co. in Texas is named for him. After Capt.
Callahan was killed by the Blassingames in 1855ish his wife soon died, and
his children became orphans. It seems evident that the two daughters moved
in with his sister's family. In fact, Capt. Callahan's daughter Carrie
married John W. Carlock, Nancy Callahan Hamilton's grandchild...or step
grandchild...somewhat confusing. Many moved on to Yell Co or Conway Co AR.
Callahans, Hamiltons, Carlocks and Couchs all from Lookout Mountain area NW
GA, SE TN.
There is more about these intermarriages, but also much that collaboration
could possibly clarify. I know the following family is related somewhere,
but I am not sure how. Any help would be appreciated.
Benjamin M. Hamilton (Dec 1823 SC - after 1880 AR (possibly OK with sons)
+Nancy A. Couch (abt 1834 Laurens Co, SC - bet 1870-1880 in Yell Co, AR)
daughter of Samuel Couch and Martha (Patsy) Owings Laurens Co, GA to Walker
Co, GA
1. Cerena C. Hamilton (Oct 9, 1852 Walker Co, GA - Dec 5, 1878 Conway Co,
AR) married in Yell Co, AR Oct 8, 1876
+James Wesley Carlock (Aug 17, 1855 Walker Co,GA - Sep 6, 1928 Conway Co,
AR ) brother of William H. Carlock above who married Capt. Callahan's
daughter Carrie. This James Wesley Carlock later married a French girl
named Ann Bernard and father 7 more children in AR.
2. Lenora C. Hamilton (abt 1854 GA - ?)
3. John M. (probably Mayberry) Hamilton ( May 1855 Walker Co, GA - ?)
4. Mary A. Hamilton (1858 Walker Co, GA - ?)
5. James Adolphus Hamilton (Oct 7 1861 Walker Co, GA - Jun 19, 1912
Williamson Co, TX)
+ Roina (Riney) Jane Moore (Dec 22, 1871 Hot Springs Co, AR - Dec 27, 1927
Williamson Co, TX)
6. Gideon (or Gordon) Andrew Hamilton (Jun 17, 1864 Walker Co, GA - feb 26,
1953 Jenks, OK) married FEb 3 1884 in Yell co, AR
+ Alice Kinser (apr 6, 1866 TN - Nov 18, 1931 Jenks, OK) 8 children moved to
OK
7. William Henry Hamilton (Jul 19, 1866 GA - ?)

Many connections to Carlocks and Couches back in GA.
Any help would be appreciated, and I am delighted to share.
