The following posting by Mike GAINOR (jmgainor(a)ec.rr.com) appeared on
the GARLOCK list today. Note that the Rheinland-Pfalz is a modern-day
German state comprised of the two historical areas of the Rheinland
(Rhineland) and the Pfalz (Palatinate). I have been unable to determine
in which of these two historical areas Kusel is located, but my guess is
the Pfalz. I lived not far from there, mainly in the village of
Weilerbach, near the town of Kaiserslautern, in the Pfalz, from 1983 to
1987, when my ex-husband was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Air
Force.
This appears to be a very significant discovery.

If I go to this link:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
and enter Hans Gerlach, with spouse last name Kummer, event: Marriage,
year 1654, +/_ 20 years, the search brings up 27 entries, nearly all of
which refer to Hans Gerlach and Anna Marie Kummer (both born at
Heidelberg), from which Sue Tilleman traces all of the descendents in
her Descendants of Hans Gerlach. But the last result of the search, #27,
is a Hans (John) Peter Gerloch, who was married and died at Heidelberg,
but who was born at a little place called Kusel, about 60 miles west of
Heidelberg as the crow flies, who married Anna Marie Kummer abt 1660 at
Heidelberg/Mannheim.
Does anyone have information regarding the possibility that Hans Gerlach
who married Anna Marie Kummer, and who has been assumed to have been
born at Heidelberg, may actually be Hans (John) Peter Gerloch, born at
Kusel, Rheinland-Pfalz, and migrated to Heidelberg? The birth date given
for Hans is a precise 23 Jan 1631. If the data is valid, the record
traces back a few more generations at Kusel to about 1500.
Has anyone done any research on this? Do you think it is a valid line of
the ancestry of Hans Gerlach of Heidelberg?
I'm going to put it into the tree, but subject to removal if it's not
valid.
Thanks for any input.
