Within the past few days the LDS FamilySearch site has put the 1880 United States census,
the 1881 British census, and the 1881 Canadian censuses online free-of-charge.

I have been working with the 1880 United States census on this site, and find it to be an
excellent resource! I was able to access 796 CARLOCK listings, 751 GARLOCK listings, 54
CARELOCK listings, 15 CEARLOCK listings, 8 CURLOCK listings, and 4 KERLOCK listings. The
majority of the CARELOCK listings were for black families living in Union Co., NC,
believed to have adopted the surname following the Civil War.
I was able to access complete household listings through the following steps:
1. Click on the link above, which already has the option "census" selected.
2. Enter the surname for which you are searching, as well as any other variables of your
choosing. (I also chose "Use exact spelling".)
3. Click on "Search", which will give you a list of up to 50 names. (To access
additional names, scroll down to the bottom of the list and click on "Matches 1880 US
Census - Over 50". You may need to repeat this process several times.)
4. Click on the individual name of your choosing, which will bring up that person's
"Individual Record".
5. Click on "household", which will bring up the listing for the entire
household.
