On page 143 of the book "The Heritage of Old Mecklenburg County, North Carolina,
1763-2003," in an article I submitted titled "351 FAMILY OF FREDERICK CARLOCK,
SR. (1720- ?), I wrote, "The name of the wife of Frederick who migrated to
Mecklenburg County has not yet been identified, but she is believed to have been born in
1729, in Augusta County, Virginia. On page 437 of his book, Marion Pomeroy Carlock only
lists two children for Frederick and his wife. ... He lists the second child as
Frederick, Jr., born in 1750, in Augusta County, Virginia. The author states that the
1790 census shows one daughter for Frederick, Jr. At this point, no further information
has yet been discovered with regard to the name of Frederick, Jr.'s wife or their
descendants."
I now believe Frederick, Jr., married Isabel CAROTHERS, Aug. 2, 1784, Rowan Co., NC, and
they were the parents of at least six children, as follows:
Frederick CARLOCK (s/o Frederick CARLOCK/CARELOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH)
was born 1750 in Augusta Co., VA, and died Bef. 17 Apr 1798. He married Isabel CAROTHERS
02 Aug 1784 in Rowan Co., NC, daughter of John CAROTHERS and Eleanor SHELBY.
Cabarrus Co., NC, Court Minutes, Apr. 17, 1798, appointed Samuel HARRIS, Jr., and Joseph
PURVIANCE as guardians for Frederick's orphaned minor children Elena, John, Margaret,
Moses, Samuel, and Frederick.
This was the first marriage for Isabella. Her second marriage was to Robert CURRY, and
her third marriage was to William A. BROOKS.
Children of Frederick CARLOCK and Isabel CAROTHERS are:
1. Elena CARLOCK, m. David KERR, Mecklenburg Co., NC; migrated to Marshall Co., MS.
2. John CARLOCK, SR., b. 1785, Mecklenburg Co., NC; d. 03 Jan 1865, Colbert Co., AL; m.
Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella "Ibby" SHELBY (d/o Thomas SHELBY and Sarah HELMS), Abt.
1806, Cabarrus Co., NC; b. 15 Nov 1791, Popular Springs, Mecklenburg Co., NC; d. 27 Nov
1850, Colbert Co., AL. John CARLOCK, Sr., migrated to AL and was reportedly a "large
land owner and had many slaves."
3. Margaret CARLOCK, m. John COBLE; migrated to Marshall Co., MS.
4. Moses CARLOCK, b. 1791, Mecklenburg Co., NC; d. Bet. 1843 - 1846; m. possibly Lydia
BROOKS (d/o William BROOKS, I, and a probable second wife); b. 1785, NC; d. Aft. 1845.
