This is the first of several sets of updates and corrections to the article I wrote,
titled "352 FAMILY OF GEORGE CARLOCK (1740-1815)," which appears on pages 143
and 144 of the recently-published book titled "The Heritage of Old Mecklenburg County
North Carolina,1763-2003."
With regard to the children of George CARLOCK/KERLOCK/CERLAUGH (s/o Frederick
CARLOCK/CARELOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH) and Fanny Mildren PLEMONS, I wrote
that six children have been identified for this couple. I have since identified a seventh
child whom I believe belonged to this couple, Leah CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. Apr. 26, 1806,
Cabarrus Co., NC, who m. John B. SCOTT. I also wrote the following with regard to George
and Fanny's son John: "2. John Carlock, born 1785, in Mecklenburg County, who
married a woman named Isabelle." I now believe this to be the incorrect John
CARLOCK, instead the son of George's brother Frederick and his wife Isabel CAROTHERS.
I now believe that George and Fanny's son John was b. ca. 1768, NC, married a woman
named Wilhelmina, and had the following children:
1. William CARLOCK who m. Martha WILLIAMS, Feb. 27, 1823, Franklin Co., MS.
2. Margaret (or Martha) CARLOCK who m. William B. PATTERSON, Sept. 1, 1836, Franklin Co.,
MS.
3. Joseph S. (Samuel or Stern) CARLOCK, b. Dec. 28, 1806, TN or KY; m. Priscilla Jane
MIDDLETON, Aug. 15, 1830, Franklin Co., MS; d. Jan. 14, 1881.
Note that at the time of the 1860 census Joseph was living two households away from a
Zachariah CARLOCK, b. ca. 1828, MS, and 3 households away from a James A. CARLOCK, b. ca.
1836, MS, and his wife Susan, b. ca. 1845, GA. I have not yet determined the relationship
between Joseph, Zachariah, and James. Does anyone have any information regarding the
relationship between these three individuals?
For additional information regarding the above-mentioned John CARLOCK (s/o Frederick
CARLOCK, Frederick CARLOCK/CARELOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), b. 1785,
Mecklenburg Co., NC, see my previous posting to the RootsWeb CARLOCK Message Board titled
"Frederick CARLOCK, Jr., m. Isabel CAROTHERS, 1784, Rowan Co., NC," at the
following site:

In the article appearing in the recently-published book I also identified the second wife
of George and Fanny's son Ebenezer "Eber" CARLOCK as "a woman named
Susannah." I have now identified Susannah as Susannah Rachel FORD (d/o John
FORD/FOARD, Sr., and Rebecca CARLOCK), widow of Thomas LITTLETON.
I have not yet identified the parents of Susannah's mother Rebecca CARLOCK, b. May 18,
1775, NC; m. May 14, 1794; d. June 20, 1847. Does anyone have any information which could
help me identify Rebecca's parents?
In the same article I wrote that George and Fanny's son Epenetus CARLOCK married Nancy
DANIEL. The most current information I have is that Epenetus married Nancy
PIMBERTON/DANIEL, Sept. 5, 1820, Wilson Co., TN.
I also wrote the following for George and Fanny's daughter Rebecca: "5. Rebecca
Carlock, born around 1800, in Mecklenburg County, who married a man surnamed Shinn."
Rebecca must have been born much earlier, as I now believe she married Benjamin SHINN,
1780, in a place identified by the following source as "Old Bethpage:"
SHINN, Josiah H., A. M., The History of the Shinn Family in Europe and America,
(

Sources for most of the information in this posting, as well as additional information
about these families, can be found in the following report which appears on my home page:
