This is a follow-up to my Mar. 23, 2006, posting to the RootsWeb CARLOCK Message Board
titled "John CARLOCK (b. ca. 1768) m. Wilhelmina," which included a copy of an
e-mail from Sharon MCLAUGHLIN (smclaughlin(a)cox-internet.com) in which she presented the
theory that the Zachariah and James A. CARLOCK who are found on the 1860 census for
Franklin Co., MS, could be children of John CARLOCK (b. ca. 1768) and Wilhelmina. Also
living nearby was the family of Joseph S. CARLOCK, s/o John and Wilhelmina.
Because Joseph S. CARLOCK m. Priscilla Jane MIDDLETON in 1830, I think it is much more
likely that James A. CARLOCK, b. 1836, MS; who m. Susan (possibly SHELL); d. 1872; and is
bd. in the Flat Creek Cemetery, Ashley Co., AR, was a son of Joseph and Priscilla than a
son of John and Wilhelmina. If we can locate James on another census giving the
birthplaces of his parents, this could help clear up this question.
It still seems likely that Sharon's theory about Zachariah being a son of John and
Wilhelmina may be correct.
