This is in reply to the following e-mail which I received from Sharon
(smclaughlin(a)cox-internet.com) in reply to my Mar. 22, 2006, posting to the RootsWeb
CARLOCK Message Board titled "George CARLOCK (1740 - ca. 1805) m. Fanny MILDREN
PLEMONS."
In that posting I wrote, “I now believe that George and Fanny's son John was b. ca.
1768, NC, married a woman named Wilhelmina, and had the following children:
1. William CARLOCK who m. Martha WILLIAMS, Feb. 27, 1823, Franklin Co., MS.
2. Margaret (or Martha) CARLOCK who m. William B. PATTERSON, Sept. 1, 1836,
Franklin Co., MS.
3. Joseph S. (Samuel or Stern) CARLOCK, b. Dec. 28, 1806, TN or KY; m.
Priscilla Jane MIDDLETON, Aug. 15, 1830, Franklin Co., MS; d. Jan. 14, 1881.
Note that at the time of the 1860 census Joseph was living two households away from a
Zachariah CARLOCK, b. ca. 1828, MS, and 3 households away from a James A. CARLOCK, b. ca.
1836, MS, and his wife Susan, b. ca. 1845, GA. I have not yet determined the relationship
between Joseph, Zachariah, and James. Does anyone have any information regarding the
relationship between these three individuals?”
See the following site for a transcription of the 1860 census for Franklin Co., MS, as
mentioned above:

Sharon appears to have a plausible theory. Does anyone have any additional information to
support Sharon’s theory?

Is it possible that the Martha Norris that Zachariah is living in the household with 1860
census is Margaret/Martha Carlock who married William Patterson? If that be the case, I
would think that William, James, Zach and Margaret/Martha are the possible children of
John and Wilhelmina.
My mother and I are the ones looking for information on Zach as we believe that he married
Martha Jane Mitchell Nelson widow in the 1870's some time. I believe that his first
wife was Elizabeth Whittington. We believe that Zach is the father of Charles Monroe
Carlock b March 13, 1881. In the census of 1880 Zach is living with Martha Norris again
and Martha Jane Mitchell Nelson Carlock is living in the next county and is listed as
widowed.
This is only speculation and I have no proof.....Charles Monroe Carlock was my
ggrandfather and I have been trying to locate information on his parents for a long time.
