Do you have a listing of children for John and Wilhelmina Carlock? I believe that Martha
Norris is a Carlock, in the 1850 census she is the head of the house and Zachariah is
listed as second, but with no ditto for last name, but the other children listed do have
the ditto and William the youngest is listed as William N. In a later census William
Norris has a son listed as Zach, I am assuming short for Zachariah. I think that Martha
and Zachariah are brother and sister, or a slight possibility is that Martha is his
mother.
Zach married Martha Jane Mitchell Nelson a widow with twins - John and Lucy Nelson. Their
father died when a tree fell on him. In the 1880 census Amite County Martha is listed as a
widow with a third child named Henry Carlock who is two years old. Zach in the 1880 census
is listed in Franklin County with a son named George who is 8 years old, but he is not
living with Martha
Norris. In the 1870 census Franklin County Zach is living with Martha Norris and he has a
wife named Betsy and a son William 2 years old. Martha Jane Mitchell Nelson married Zach
March 22, 1877 in Franklin County.
I never see 8 year old George, or 2 year old William or 2 year old Henry every again. When
Martha Jane remarried again about 1884 there was never mentioned a son named Henry Carlock
by any of her decedents, only the reference to the twins and to Charles Monroe Carlock who
was born in 1881.
I just found info that has changed my mind, I think Martha Norris is Martha Nelson who
married John Norris, based on this I would think that maybe Andrew Nelson who married
Martha Jane Mitchell is the brother to Martha Nelson. I think Zach is just in the house to
assist with the farming since she is a widow starting with the 1850 census forward. Martha
Norris is listed as being from NC in the 1850 census and later census has her from MS then
in another one from NC. Can the Nelsons or Norris be interwoven with the Carlocks? Could
Martha Norris be Martha Williams the widow to William Carlock? who married a Nelson, then
John Norris. All just speculation
