I have several questions with regard to the various CARLOCK lines associated with
Craighead Co., Arkansas. So far, I have identified the following lines:
Descendants of James M. CARLOCK (s/o John CARLOCK, Sr.; Frederick CARLOCK; Frederick
CARLOCK/CARELOCK; David GERLACH/CARLOCK; Johan Peter "Hans" GERLACH):
Son Marcus D. "Marc or M.D." CARLOCK, b. ca. 1865, Mississippi; living in Alcorn
Co., MS, at the time of the 1870 and 1880 censuses; m. Margaret Jane "Maggie"
PRIMM, 1896, Craighead Co., AR; d. 1897 - 1901. Maggie remarried, 18 Mar. 1901, Craighead
Co., AR, to Jack S. "Jasper" ERVIN. This family can be found living in Black
Oak Township, Craighead Co., AR, at the time of the 1910 census, along with Marc and
Maggie's daughter Clarisa "Clarisy" CARLOCK (b. 16 Dec. 1896, Craighead Co.,
AR). According to the following source, Marc was possibly a logger who died in a logging
accident: PATRICK, Wendy (ScotyBmeup(a)cs.com), Sept. 13, 1999, posting to Ancestry CARLOCK
Message Board titled "Carlock Family",
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/surnames.carlock/37; and July 11, 2001,
posting to CARLOCK Genforum (
http://genforum.genealogy.com/my/). Marc was approximately
34 years old at the time he married Maggie. Was this his first marriage? Did he possibly
have children !
by a previous marriage?
Grandson William W. CARLOCK (s/o Thomas V. CARLOCK), b. Feb. 1865, Alabama, was in
Coldwater, Tate Co., Mississippi, at the time of the 1880 census; married 1 May 1889, Tate
Co., Mississippi; then migrated to Craighead Co., AR, by ca. 1897, when he can be found
listed on the poll tax list. He can be found living in Lester Township, Craighead Co.,
AR, at the time of the 1900 census, along with his wife Eliza (b. July 1862, TN), four
biological children surnamed CARLOCK, and the following three stepchildren surnamed
CARLOCK: John William CARLOCK, b. Oct. 1882, MS ; Thomas CARLOCK, b. July 1883, MS; and
Charley CARLOCK, b. May 1888, MS. Can anyone identify the father of John, Thomas, and
Charley CARLOCK? He very likely was a brother or other close relative to their stepfather
William W. CARLOCK.
Descendants of Washington Miller CARLOCK (s/o Shedrick CARLOCK, William GERLACH/CARLOCK;
Johannes GERLACH/GERLAGH/CARLOCK; Juraien "George GERLACH/GERLAGH/CARLOCK; Coenraad
"Conrad" GERLACH/GERLAG/CARLOCK; Johan Peter "Hans" GERLACH):
Washington Miller CARLOCK was born 27 Oct 1834, Bergen Co., New Jersey; m. Mary Caroline
BELL, 24 Dec. 1854, Delaware, Delaware Co., Ohio; can be found in Washington Township Van
Wert Co., OH, at the time of the 1870 and 1880 censuses; d. 17 Apr. 1904, Jonesboro,
Craighead Co., AR; bd. City Cemetery, Jonesboro, Craighead Co., AR. Washington's son
Samuel Scott CARLOCK (1859 - 1901) is also buried in the same cemetery.
Descendants of William B. CARLOCK (lineage ?): William B. CARLOCK is listed as the father
of Gayola Pearl CARLOCK (1923 - 1990) who married Ralph Farris JOSEPH (b. 1924), in 1948,
Craighead Co., AR. Can anyone identify Gayola's father William B. CARLOCK?
Descendants of William L. CARLOCK (lineage ?): William L. CARLOCK m. Ella HOGAN, 1922,
Craighead Co., AR. Can anyone identify William L. CARLOCK?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
