The obituary for Owen Thomas CARLOCK (ca. 1953 - 2002) of Staten Island, NY, and
Middletown, NJ, who died May 23, 2012, can be found at the following site:
http://obits.nj.com/obituaries/starledger/obituary.aspx?n=owen-thomas-car...
Owen was a New York City firefighter from Brooklyn's Ladder Co. No. 122 who was at
ground zero when the World Trade Center towers fell on Sept. 11, 2001. According to the
following article, he and his co-workers survived by hiding behind a bank building to
avoid the falling debris:
San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco, CA (
http://www.sfgate.com), Internet, Sept. 11,
2002, article titled "9.11.01, ONE YEAR LATER, Where do New York firefighters find
meaning?,"
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2002/09/11/MN233758.DTL
I show Owen's CARLOCK lineage as follows:
Abraham CARLOCK (1798 - 1856)
probably Abraham (or Abram) CARLOCK, Jr. (1825 - 1914)
Daniel CARLOCK (b. 1856)
Bernardo "Bernard" F. CARLOCK (1876 - 1930)
Bernard Francis CARLOCK (1924 - 2002)
Owen Thomas CARLOCK
Members of this family are listed on pages 430 and 431 of the book "History of the
Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929.
Owen's gr.-gr.-gr.-grandfather Abraham CARLOCK (1798 - 1856) is most likely either
descended from Coenraad "Conrad" GERLACH/GERLAG/CARLOCK (1660 - ca. 1712) of
Hackensack, Bergen Co., NJ, or his brother Johan Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK (1669 -
1764) of the Schoharie and Mohawk Valleys of NY. Both brothers had CARLOCK descendants
living in the New York City area.
Also note that Owen's grandfather Bernardo "Bernard" F. CARLOCK (1876 -
1930) and great-uncle Daniel Jerome CARLOCK (1882 - 1957) were also New York City
firefighters. According to the following source, Bernardo was killed in the line of duty
when he was overcome by smoke.
FDNY Line of Duty Deaths Prior to 911

Furthermore, Owen's great-grandfather Daniel CARLOCK (b. 1856), of New York City, was
listed as a coachman at the time of the 1880 census and a policeman at the time of the
1900 census.
