This is in response to the Aug. 11, 2006, posting by Susan (ealt117(a)aol.com) to the
Tazewell Co., VA, list titled "? Smith, Loyalist."
References to Jane CARLOCK, John W. SMITH, and their family can be found on pages 512 and
526 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK,
1929. Page 526 says that John "was a grandson of an English Smith ancestor who came
over and located in Tazewell Co., Va., a few years before the outbreak of the
Revolutionary War."
Information about the the descendants of John and Jane can be found in the GERLACH report
on my home page. Within that report I have Jane's lineage listed as follows:
Hans GERLACH
David GERLACH/CARLOCK
Hanchrist CARLOCK
Isaac CARLOCK
Jane CARLOCK
Susan Cearlock Tilleman

Subject: ? Smith, Loyalist
Hello,
I am trying to find an ancestor named Smith. Apparently he came to the
US and fought in the Rev. War. Then he settled in Tazewell Co. VA.
He had atleast one son named William. William lost an arm, as a child,
in a fire. William Smith eventually moved to TN and had atleast one son
named John W. Smith. This John W. Smith married Jane Carlock. John was
a minister.
I don't have much information to go on.
Any help on this Smith family is appreaciated.
Thanks,
Susan
