This is in reply to Gwen BILBREY-REYNOLDS's posting earlier today titled "Jane
Carlock."
It seems like too much of a coincidence that David JACKSON (1793 - 1848) of Overton Co.,
TN, and his wife Jane CARLOCK's (1802 - 1860) granddaughter Sallie JACKSON (1861 -
1941) married a BILBREY, and Worley E. BILBREY (1893 - 1915) of Overton Co., TN, married
Maude/Maudey M. CARLOCK (b. ca. 1891) in Walker Co., GA. Tracing Maude/Maudey's
lineage back to the generation that could have been Jane's parents, I come to Joseph
CARLOCK (1780 - ca. 1823) of possibly Campbell Co., TN. I have not yet found Joseph's
wife's name, but he had two sons, James B. CARLOCK, Sr. (1800 - 1865) of Campbell Co.,
TN, and Walker Co., GA; and Joseph Taylor CARLOCK (1802 - 1857) of Campbell Co., TN;
Marion Co., TN; and Walker Co., GA. I have not yet found this family on the 1810 or 1820
censuses so that I can see descriptions of the people living in this household. It's
a longshot, but this could be Jane's family.
It also appears that this Jane CARLOCK is not the same person as the Jane CARLOCK (b. ca.
1802, Overton Co., TN; d. 1884, Gordon Co., GA) who married John W. SMITH ca. 1822,
probably Overton Co., TN. According to my records, this second Jane CARLOCK was the
daughter of Isaac CARLOCK (1767 - ca. 1854) of Augusta Co., VA; Overton Co., TN; and Dade
Co., MO; and his wife Sarah RUCKMAN (b. 1780).
Please let me know if you ever find additional evidence regarding the names of Jane's
parents.
