This is in reply to Doyle SMITH's (doyles(a)sbcglobal.net) Oct. 4, 2005,
posting
to the RootsWeb Vernon Parish, LA, Message Board titled "Re: CARLOCK
Family of Vernon Parish, LA."
First, thank you very much for your reply.
I have not seen the 1860 census listings you mention. I have seen the
1850 and
1870 census listings.
The 1850 census listing you mention can be found at the following site:
http://home.pcisys.net/~don_erickson/census/409b.htm#A4
The 1870 census is temporarily available on-line free-of-charge through
Oct. 13th.
See my previous posting regarding same:

I have also found the following listing on the 1880 census for District
42, Vernon
Parish, LA, through the following site:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/searc
h_census.asp
> Sarah CARLOCK Self W Female W 45 AL. Keeps

Jacob CARLOCK Son S Male W 20 AR. Farming TN. AL.
Martha J. CARLOCK Dau S Female W 18 MS. Asst. Keeps House

> Lidia Ellen CARLOCK Dau S Female W 10 LA. TN. AL.
> Letty L. F. CARLOCK Dau S Female W 7 LA. TN. AL.

same person,
but I do not yet have enough evidence to prove this one way or the other,
nor to prove which is the correct name, although the majority of the
evidence points toward Jacob being the correct name. Since the 1850 census
lists Jacob G. CARLOCK as b. ca. 1829, TN, and the book "History of the
Carlock Family," page 619, lists Jacob Gibson CARLOCK as b. 1832, Charlotte,
NC, I had not previously made the connection that these were the same
individual. I will need to compare the rest of the family information on
the censuses more carefully to determine if these are indeed the same
individuals.
