This is in reply to msparker505's Apr. 19, 2012, postings to the RootsWeb CARLOCK
Message Board titled "Re: Barbara Carlock m. John Jameson."
See my posting earlier today, located at the following site, titled "John Henry
WHITMAN m. Catherine CARLOCK (1725 - 1801)":

I believe that "Carlock" was a middle name, not a surname for sisters Barbara
Carlock WHITMAN and Mary Carlock WHITMAN.
Margaret H. AKERS's letter to the Veteran's Administration was written in 1932.
It appears that she had made the assumption that "Carlock" was a surname instead
of a middle name.
Page 57 of the book "History of the Carlock Family and Pioneer Americans," by
Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, includes references to Catherine CARLOCK WHITMAN's
daughter "Mary Carlock Whitman" marrying William BRADLEY, Mar. 12, 1791, and
"Barbara Carlock Whitman" marrying John JAMESON, son of Abraham JAMESON.
