This is in reply to the following e-mail message which I received from Helen ROBERTSON
("e-mail address HelenR32"), Mar. 10, 2004. I do not do research for a fee, but
am willing to share what little information I have about this family. At this point I do
not have enough information to connect Helen's great-grandfather Zachariah CARLOCK to
the rest of our CARLOCK family. Does anyone else have any additional information about
this family? Also, what evidence do we have that Zachariah was indeed the name of the
father of Charles Monroe CARLOCK?
First, based on information from the following source, combined with information from
Helen ROBERTSON, I believe that there were probably at least two Zachariah CARLOCKs in
this area:
MCLAUGHLIN, Sharon (smclaughlin(a)cox-internet.com), "Electronic," July 27, 2003,
posting to the Rootsweb MSSWTerritory Message Board titled, "Charles Monroe
Carlock",
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=localities.n...;
and e-mail, July 27, 2003.
Again, based on information from the above-mentioned source, combined with information
provided by Helen ROBERTSON, I have the following information about this family in my
database at this time:
Generation No. 1
possibly Zachariah CARLOCK, m. Martha Jane MITCHELL, before 1881; d. ca. 1881. Martha
Jane MITCHELL d/o Lucy Ann EVANS/WHITTINGTON, b. ca. 1857; m#2. John BRUCE; m#3. William
MASON.
Children of possibly Zachariah CARLOCK and Martha Jane MITCHELL are:
1. Charles Monroe CARLOCK (alias L. BROWN), b. Mar. 13, 1881, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA
Generation No. 2
Charles Monroe CARLOCK (alias L. BROWN), b. Mar. 13, 1881, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA; m.
Mary Idella, May 30, 1900, Lincoln Co., MS. Mary Idella d/o [female] BROWN; m #1.
WALLIS/WALLACE, before May 30, 1900.
Children:
1. Cleon
2. Ida
3. Lena
4. Irvin
5. Lawrence
6. Florence
7. Rowena
8. Henry
9. Frank
A search of the Amite Co., MS, 1880, census, at the following site, shows the following
family:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/se...
M. CARLOCK, Self, W, Female, W, 24, MS, Field, MS, MS
J. NELSON, Son, S, Male, W, 5, MS, MS, MS
Lucy NELSON, Dau, S, Female, W, MS, MS, MS
Henry CARLOCK, Son, S, Male, W, 2, MS, MS, MS
I do not see that we have enough information at this time to identify this Amite Co., MS,
family as the family of Helen's great-grandfather Zachariah CARLOCK. Are there
additional documents or oral family history of which I am not aware?
Any additional information about these families, their ancestors, or their descendants
would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Research Zachariah Carlock
Would you do a genealogy search on Zachariah Carlock? If so, what would your fee
be?
Zachariah Carlock is my great grandfather. Information I have at this time is as

Children of Zachariah and Martha Carlock:
Carlock, Henry Son Male W 2 MS MS MS (1880 Amite County Mississippi Census)
a.. Carlock, Charles M. Son, born March 13, 1881 in Winn Parish, Winnfield LA.
b.. Charles M. Carlock is my grandfather. He married Mary Wallace May 30, 1900 in
Lincoln County Mississippi.
Zachariah Carlock married Elizabeth Whittington July 9, 1866 in Amite County
Mississippi.
[Presumably first marriage and Martha Nelson second marriage)
Note: I don't why the difference in age of Zachariah - age 32 in 1860 Census and
age 45 in 1870 Census. I would like to know what connection there is between Martha
Norris and Zachariah Carlock.
Sincerely,
Helen Robertson
