Edie:
I am forwarding your e-mail to the CARLOCK mailing list to help you possibly connect with
other individuals researching this same branch of the family, as you mentioned in your
e-mail.
Based on the information you provided, I was able to locate Lena, Dicey, Ben, and their
families on the 1900 census for Knoxville, Franklin Co., MS. I also located Ben's
brother Robert and his family living near these same families.
Ben's older brother whom you mention marrying Sarah Catherine "Kate"
MONTGOMERY was apparently Ransom G. CARLOCK who m. Catherine MONTGOMERY, July 30, 1862,
Franklin Co., MS. I do not yet have a death date for Ransom, but it would appear that he
probably died prior to 1871, when Ben and Catherine's daughter Dicey was born. Based
on the timeframe, it is possible that Ransom could have been a Civil War fatality.
I attempted unsuccessfully to find Ben and his family on the 1880 census to confirm the
names of his children. I am also unable to confirm at this time whether or not Ben was
killed by being hit by a train.
You mentioned Lena's daughter. Any additional information that you may wish to
provide with regard to Lena and her descendants would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Susan,
I have seen your name and research in several places online and on Carlock message
board, and am wondering if you might be able to help me connect with someone interested in
the family of Lena Carlock Shoemaker.
Lena was daughter of Ben Carlock and Sarah Catherine "Kate" Montgomery, who
was married first to Ben's older brother. I saw a picture of Lena with her brother
Henry, on the blueangel website. I think he must be who Lena's daughter called Uncle
Bud--she named Aunt Dicey, Martha Jane, and Uncle Bud, as Lena's siblings. The
histories I have seen online, mention Dicey and Henry as children of Ben and Sarah, but
not Lena! Lena and Martin Shoemaker were living in the same neighborhood with Dicey
Norris, and Ben Carlock, in 1900.
Lena's daughter also told us that Ben Carlock died when he was hit by a train. I
would love to be able to corroborate/document that.
Hoping to hear from you,
Edie Rudolph
