This is in reply to an e-mail I received from Gwena ZIKE
(dzk217(a)consolidated.net) in reply to my posting to this list yesterday
titled "CARLOCK, CEARLOCK, HARRIS, and HICKS Families of Fayette Co., IL."
In your e-mail you wrote, "I have almost nothing on the Carlock's at all. I
found a website that list Della Fillora as Flora Dell and has her parents
listed as William Payton Carlock and Emily Connor ... Here is the site
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/8861/dat2.htm#21 "
A check of the Ramsey, Fayette Co., IL, 1880 census through the following
site brings up the family of William CARLOCK, age 33, and his wife Lucy, age
25, as well as 6 children ranging in age from 1 to 10, including a
5-year-old daughter named Dellie.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/se...
Much of the information found in that 1880 census listing agrees with
information found in the site you mention.
My records show that William Payton CARLOCK's first wife, Emily CONNOR d.
May 1875, and that he did not marry his second wife, Lucy Ann DUNCAN until
Nov. 22/24, 1877.
A search of the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763 - 1900, through the
following site brings up the following listings:
http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html
WRIGHT, William R. DUNCAN, Lucy A. 06/16/1872 Fayette
CARLOCK, William P. WRIGHT, Lucy A. 11/24/1877 Fayette
My source for the marriage of William and Emily, as well as Emily's death
date, comes from the following source, also by the same individual who
submitted the site you mention above:
MCCRILLIS, Laurie Leigh-Ann CUNNINGHAM/URRY (dance(a)acclink.com), Mar. 19,
2002,
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/8861/Tree.html.
Since I have no independent verification of Emily's death date at this
point, I cannot positively identify the name of the mother of some of the
younger children. Independent verification such as birth certificates,
etc., would be helpful in clearing this up.
Within the following report, I have William Payton CARLOCK's ancestry as
follows:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE18-...
Hans GERLACH
David GERLACH/CARLOCK
Hanchrist CARLOCK
Lemuel CARLOCK
possibly John CARLOCK
William Henry CARLOCK
William Payton/Paton CARLOCK
I also have a copy of the following book in my personal library which lists
a cemetery listing in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Fayette Co., IL, for a William P.
CARLOCK, "Co. F. 14 Ill. Cav.": HOFFMAN, Esther HALFORD, Fayette County,
Illinois, Cemetery Inscriptions, Volume 1, (Decatur, IL: The Decatur
Genealogical Society, 1969), 36. I do not yet have enough information to
positively identify this as your William P. CARLOCK, but suspect that they
may be the same person.
William Paton CARLOCK appears on page 440 of the book "History of the
Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. See the following
archived posting for information about viewing or purchasing a copy of this
book:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CARLOCK/2004-01/1075090888
You will notice above that I have the word "possibly" in from of the name
John CARLOCK. Page 437 of the book "History of the Carlock Family" lists
John and his brother Joseph as sons of Lemuel, but John and Joseph have so
much in common with my North Carolina line, descendants of Hanchrist's
brother Frederick, that I question whether or not John and Joseph are indeed
sons of Lemuel. Additional evidence is needed. See the following archived
posting for further discussion on this subject:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CARLOCK/2003-06/1055791837
In the above-mentioned posting, I wrote, "Furthermore, the John listed in
the book as Lemuel's son also appears closely associated with Frederick's
family. John was living near my CARLOCK/CEARLOCK family in Kentucky,
including David, probable son of Frederick (s/o David). Both John's family
and my family had some descendants who spelled their surname 'CEARLOCK' and
some descendants who migrated to Fayette Co., IL." William Payton CARLOCK's
father William Henry CARLOCK, mentioned on pages 438 and 440 of the book
"History of the Carlock Family," migrated from Warren Co., KY, to Fayette
Co., IL, at approximately the same time as did my relatives, descendants of
George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, probable s/o David, Frederick,
David, Hans. Furthermore, some descendants of John's grandson Luther Carel
CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (s/o George, John), listed on page 438 and pictured on page
439 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," also adopted the spellings
CEARLOCK and CURLOCK, as did members of my line. John's descendants who
used the spellings CEARLOCK and CURLOCK are found primarily in the areas
around Marlow, Stephens Co., OK, and Sayre, Beckham Co., OK.
The following archived message may also be of interest to you as it pertains
to the above-mentioned Hanchrist CARLOCK:

I look forward to hearing from you again. Any additional information that
you may wish to provide with regard to your line would be greatly
appreciated.

Subject: CARLOCK, CEARLOCK, HARRIS, and HICKS Families of Fayette Co., IL
This is in reply to Gwena ZIKE's (dzk217(a)consolidated.net) Apr.
14, 2004,
posting to the HARRIS-HUNTERS-L(a)rootsweb.com list titled "Harris'
Brunswick
county VA, Rutherford & Burke counties in NC, and Fayette county IL."
I do not find information in my database at this time about either your
gr-gr.-grandmother, Della Filora CARLOCK, or your gr.-gr.-grandfather
Charles E. HICKS, but would be very much interested in any additional
information that you may wish to share with regard to them or their
descendants. Do you have any additional information about Della Filora
CARLOCK's ancestry so that we can connect her to the rest of the
CARLOCK/CEARLOCK family tree?
...
> Third, my CARLOCK/CEARLOCK line from George W.
CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca.
1779, NC, to the above-mentioned Joseph Edward CEARLOCK is as follows. I
believe, but do not yet have proof, that George was s/o David CARLOCK,
Frederick CARLOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH, as shown in the
following report which appears on my home page:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE18-...
> George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK
> Abraham CARLOCK/CARELOCK
> John Henry CARLOCK/CEARLOCK
> James Robert "Robert" CEARLOCK
> Joseph Edward "Edward/Ed" CEARLOCK who m. Mary Elizabeth HICKS
