Seeking ancestry of Hannah M. CARLOCK, b. ca. 1841, NJ, who m. G. M. OTTIGNON, 1866,
Paramus, Bergen Co., NJ, and lived with her husband and family in Bergen Co., NJ, until at
least the time of the 1920 census. At the time of the 1870 census, there was a Maria
CARLOCK, age 61, living in the same household with Hannah and her family. I suspect this
was probably her mother. If the age was listed incorrectly, this could either be her
grandmother or her mother if Hannah was born to her mother when her mother was in her
40s.
Hannah's information seems to fit with the Hannah M. CARLOUGH, b. ca. 1842, NJ, who
can be found on the following censuses, with the exception of the name and birthdate of
her mother and/or grandmother. The 1850 census lists the following individuals as living
in the same household: Nicholus ("Nick") CARLOUGH, age 58, b. NJ; Maria
CARLOUGH, age 50, b. NJ; Margaret CARLOUGH, age 26, b. NJ; and Hannah M. CARLOUGH, age. 8,
b. NJ.
1850 United States Federal Census, Washington Township, Bergen Co., NJ, sheet 265,
enumerated Aug. 20, 1850, dwelling 879, family 968, with relationships of Margaret and
Hannah M. to Nicholus and Maria not specified.
1860 United States Federal Census, P.O. Hohokus, Washington Township, Bergen Co., NJ, p.
51, dwelling 368, family 427.
Can anyone verify whether or not the Maria CARLOCK, b. ca. 1809, who was living with
Hannah and her family at the time of the 1870 census is the same individual as the Maria
CARLOUGH, b. ca. 1799, who can be found on the above-mentioned 1850 census? Also, can
anyone verify whether or not Maria was Hannah's mother or grandmother?
