Need assistance in sorting out the various Hanna/Hannah CARLOCKs and CARLOUGHs who lived
in New Jersey and New York. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. So far I find the
following Hanna/Hannah CARLOCK/CARLOUGHs:
Hannah Maria "Mariah" CARLOUGH (d/o Nicholas CARLOUGH and Margaret DATER, and
granddaughter of Ludovick CARLOUGH and Wyntjie VAN WERT), b. Feb. 1828, Ramapo, Rockland
Co., NY; m. George BOWLEY; d. Sept. 4, 1902, Ramapo, Rockland Co., NY. Residences: Ramapo,
Rockland Co., NY, 1870; Monsey, Rockland Co., NY, 1880. I have not yet determined the
ancestry of Hannah's grandfather Ludovick CARLOUGH, but suspect that he is somehow
descended from the immigrant Coenraad "Conrad" CARLOCK (1660 - ca. 1712) of
Hackensack, Bergen Co., NJ. Note that Hannah's name is listed as Anna M. BOLEY on the
1880 census.
Janis Hannah "Hannah" CARLOUGH (d/o David James CARLOUGH and Maria MAY, and
granddaughter of James David John CARLOUGH, David CARLOUGH who m. Margaret MAYSINGER), b.
Aug. 17, 1838, NJ; m. James DOREMUS, Dec. 28, 1859. Residence Hohokus, Bergen Co., NJ,
1850. I have not yet determined the parents of Hannah's great-grandfather David
CARLOUGH, but suspect that he is somehow descended from the immigrant Coenraad
"Conrad" CARLOCK (1660 - ca. 1712) of Hackensack, Bergen Co., NJ.
Hannah CARLOCK, b. ca. 1839, NJ; m. John Jeremiah JORDAN, ca. 1858. Residence Patterson,
Passaic Co., NJ, 1860, 1870, 1880. I have not yet identified Hannah's parents.
Hannah M. (CARLOCK) CARLOUGH (d/o Nicholus "Nick" (CARLOCK) CARLOUGH and
Maria.), m. G. M. OTTIGNON, July 1, 1866, Paramus, Bergen Co., NJ. Residences Washington
Township, Bergen Co., NJ, 1850; Hohokus, Washington Township, Bergen Co., NJ, 1860; P. O.
Saddle River, Washington Township, Bergen Co., NJ, 1870; Washington Township, Bergen Co.,
NJ, 1880, 1885; Washington Township, Westwood Borough, Bergen Co., NJ, 1900; Washington
Township, Bergen Co., NJ, 1910; Bergen Co., NJ, 1905, 1920. I have not yet determined the
names of Hannah's father Nicholus's parents.
Hanna M. (aka "Eliza" ?) (CARLOCK) CARLOUGH (d/o Jeremiah CARLOCK/CARLOUGH and
Eliza, and granddaughter of Jeremiah CARLOUGH and Elizabeth "Betsy" who are
listed on page 65 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy
CARLOCK, 1929), b. Aug 1849, New York City, New York Co., NY; m. George Edward HATSTAT,
ca. 1866. Residence New York City, New York Co., NY, 1860; Borough of Manhattan, New York
City, New York Co., NY, 1900; Borough of Brooklyn, New York City, Kings Co., NY, 1910.
Hanna was widowed, living with her daughter Leah May (or May Leah) "May" HATSTAT
PILLING at the time of the 1910 census. Hanna was not listed as living with May and her
family in Carlstadt, Bergen Co., NJ, at the time of the 1930 census. I have not yet been
able to locate May or her husband Godfrey A. PILLING on the 1920 census. Note that Hanna
was listed as "Eliza COLLOCK" on May's marriage record. I have not yet
identified the parents of Hanna's grandfather Jeremiah CARLOUGH.
Hannah M. CARLOUGH (d/o Henry H. CARLOUGH, Jr., and Mary C. BAKER), b. Sept. 10, 1866,
Campgow, Bergen Co., NJ. Residence P.O. Ramsey, Franklin Township, Bergen Co., NJ, 1870.
Reference: FamilySearch, New Jersey Births and Christenings, 1660 - 1980 for Hannah M.
CARLOUGH.
Hannah Elisabeth "Lizzie" CARLOUGH (d/o Jacob CARLOUGH and Maria STRAUT,
granddaughter of David James CARLOUGH, James David John CARLOUGH, David CARLOUGH who m.
Margaret MAYSINGER), b. Mar. 2, 1867, R. Mts., Bergen Co., NJ. Residence P. O. Ramsey,
Hohokus Township, Bergen Co., NJ, 1870; Paterson, Passaic Co., NJ, 1880. I have not yet
identified the parents of Hannah's gg-grandfather David CARLOUGH, but suspect that he
is somehow descended from the immigrant Coenraad "Conrad" CARLOCK (1660 - ca.
1712) of Hackensack, Bergen Co., NJ.
Hanna L. CARLOUGH, b. ca. 1892. Probable sister May E. CARLOUGH, b. ca. 1895. Also living
in the same household in Passaic Co., NJ, with Hanna and May at the time of the 1905 New
Jersey State Census were Annie WALTERS, age 62, Herman WALTERS, age 27, Henry VAN DECKER,
age 30, and Minnie W. C. VAN DECKER, age 31. I have not yet identified the parents of
Hanna and May.
To further complicate matters, I also find the following Hannah's who married into the
CARLOUGH families of New Jersey and New York. I include them here because I have seen at
least one occasion where one of these individuals has been confused with one of the
above-mentioned Hannahs. It is also probable that some of the above-mentioned Hannahs
could have been named after some of these individuals.
Hannah "Annetje" DOREMUS (d/o Jacobus/James DOREMUS and Maria "Polly"
GOETSCHIUS), b. Jan 26, 1801, Masonicus, Bergen Co., NJ; m. #1 Isaac JONES, Jr., Dec. 22,
1821, Saddle River, Bergen Co., NJ; m. #2 James David John CARLOUGH, ca. 1837; d. Jan. 16,
1880, Masonicus, Ramapo Township, Ramapo Township, NY; bd. Airmont Lutheran Cemetery,
Suffern, Rockland Co., NY, or Masonicus Cemetery, Ramapo Township, NY. Note that Hannah is
believed to have been a great-grandmother to the above-mentioned Hannah Elisabeth
"Lizzie" CARLOUGH, b. Mar. 2, 1867, R. Mts., Bergen Co., NJ. Hannah DOREMUS
JONES CARLOUGH's residences Hohokus Township, Bergen Co., NJ, 1850, 1870.
Hannah M. RYERSON, b. Sept. 2, 1845; m. John J. CARLOUGH; d. Aug. 19, 1911; bd. Cedar Lawn
Cemetery, Paterson, Passaic Co., NJ. Residences Paterson, Passaic Co., NJ, 1870, 1880;

Hannah STRAUT, b. Jan. 25, 1837; m. George CARLOUGH; d. Oct. 23, 1904; bd. Airmont
Lutheran Cemetery, Suffern, Rockland Co., NY. Residences Ramapo, Rockland Co., NY, 1870,

Any additions or corrections would be greatly appreciated.
