Note in my previous posting that there were both a George CERLAUGH and a
George KERLOCK listed as living near each other in Mecklenburg Co., NC, in
1790. I only know of one George CARLOCK, listed on page 615 of the book
"History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, as s/o
Frederick, David, b. 1740, who would have been old enough to have been
listed as a head of household in 1790. (My direct ancestor George W.
CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, probable s/o David, Frederick, David, was b. ca. 1779,
NC.) These individuals were all believed to have been living in the area
near Concord, NC, which later became Cabarrus Co.
Both Georges are listed as having 1 free white male of at least 16 years of
age in the household, 1 free white male under 16 years of age in the
household, and 4 free white females in the household in 1790.
Can anyone identify this second George CARLOCK?

Subject: CARLOCK Family on 1790 Census
The U.S. Census Bureau has now put the 1790/1791 censuses on-line at the
following site for all of the 13 original states except New Jersey:
http://www2.census.gov/prod2/decennial/1790.htm
These are all very large files, available either to be read on-line or to be
downloaded as a ZIP file.
According to information gathered from the following site, the New Jersey
census apparently did not "survive". This is unfortunate since one branch
of our CARLOCK/GARLOCK/CARLOUGH family was living in New Jersey at the time.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/help/1790.htm
By first searching the indexes, then going to the actual pages, I found the
following which may be of use to individuals researching our early
CARLOCK/GARLOCK/CARLOUGH family. Please let the list know if you find any
other listings that I may have missed. I did not check all states and could
have missed alternative spellings. I have not yet been able to locate many
of our ancestors, such as the David CARLOCK (probable s/o Frederick, David),
b. ca. 1739, probably living near Mecklenburg Co., NC, in 1790, whom I
believe to be my direct ancestor.
