I am attempting to identify the J. A. CARLOCK, 1836 - 1872, buried on the William Alonza
PYRON lot, Flat Creek Cemetery, Ashley Co., AR.
Re:

I believe this may be the same individual as the James A. CARLOCK, farm laborer, he and
wife Susan (b. ca. 1845, GA) living in the David A. SHELL household, Franklin Co., MS,
1860. I cannot yet positively identify this James A. CARLOCK.
Note that the following posting refers to a William PYRON (1770 - 1853) marrying a woman
named CARLOCK (b. 1800) as his first wife, and a John Calvin PYRON (b. 1824) marrying a
Mary Isabella CARLOCK:
Anne (ANNEMEDLIN(a)aol.com), "Electronic," Mar. 12, 2004, posting to the Rootsweb
PYRON mailing list titled "Re: [PYRON-L] Pyron Ms,"
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/PYRON/2004-03/1079130835.
Four PYRONs are listed as being buried in the Flat Creek Cemetery, Ashley Co., AR: the
above-mentioned John Calvin PYRON and his wife Mary Isabella; and William Alonza PYRON
(Jan. 20, 1855 - May 19, 1949) and his wife Mary E. (1860 - 1942).
I also believe the Matilda PYRON (b. 1815) listed in the above-mentioned posting as
daughter of William PYRON (1770 - 1853) and his second wife, Nancy CROWELL, and brother to
the above-mentioned John Calvin PYRON, to be the Matilda PYRON who m. Cornelius
CARLOCK/CARELOCK, Oct. 5, 1831, Mecklenburg Co., NC. Cornelius and his family migrated to
Ashley Co., AR. The James buried on the William Alonza PYRON lot, Flat Creek Cemetery,
Ashley Co., AR, could possibly be Cornelius's nephew James (s/o James, John, George,
Frederick, David, Hans) who is listed on page 617 of the book "History of the Carlock
Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929.
I have also not yet positively identified the CARLOCK who was Matilda's stepmother or
the Mary Isabella CARLOCK who was her sister-in-law. According to pages 616 and 618 of
the book "History of the Carlock Family," Cornelius CARLOCK had a sister named
Isabel CARLOCK, who m. HENNIGAN and had children named James, Mollie, and Isabelle
HENNIGAN. Cornelius's mother was also named Isabelle. I do not know if there is a
connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
