Message Board Post:
Lisa, I have in my posession a family Bible that may have belonged to Elbert and
Sarah--they are the couple listed under the wedding certificate part. It's very old,
very faded, but lists a number of people. Sarah was one of the daughters of Drury
Singleterry of Walker County GA, and the wedding was held at his home. The bible was
given to us by my husband's mother, Barbara Singleterry Smith. Her mother was married
first to Francis Ralph Singleterry, and then, according to her records, to a G. Hayden
Carlock, and I am assuming that this came to her possession through him and her mother.
According to my mother in law, the two husbands were 'double cousins', through
both their mothers and their fathers. She's not a real good historian, and she gets a
little confused, so it's hard to get clear information from her. I'm accessing
the message board at work, and I have been trying to get a good scan on these pages, but
so far nothing legible has come out. They're right in !
the center of this very old large parlor type bible, so it's hard to get them flat
enough to scan, and as I said, the ink is faded quite badly. I don't know if any of
this information helps, but I would be glad to transcribe what's in there and send it
to you if you like. Likewise, if you have any information on either the Singleterry or
the Carlock side, I would certainly appreciate it. I am having difficulty with the exact
link between Francis Ralph and Drury Singleterry, and the Carlock connection might
help--say a Carlock daughter that married a Singleterry in the late 1880's or early
1890's?
