Mrs. Walters states in her paper that Meta Carlock is the daughter of Robert
Newton Carlock and Mary Ann Mulkey Halford. Mary Ann was first married to
John Halford and they were divorced in Franklin County MS in 1870. Meta was
born June 27 1881 and died Feb 8 1923 and is buried at Providence Cemetery.
Meta married J M Corban March 14 1900. She only list two children for Robert
N Carlock and Mary, Meta & Everett.
Mrs. Walters states - "In some of the old notes taken by William Curtis
Freeman, it says that "two of the sons of Joseph Carlock were killed in the
Civil War". The notes do not identify the two. We are guessing that the two
who died CSA are John James, who was b Sept 29 1833; and Francis Marion, b
1843. We find no further records of these two."
Mrs. Walters states that she has no definite record of the grandchildren of
Joseph Samuel Carlock and Pricilla Middleton EXCEPT Robert Newton Carlock.
Mrs. Walters list 10 children to Everett Carlock and Ella Idora Ford. She
also states that Ella Idora Ford is the daug of Tobias Frank Ford and
Virginia Mackey.
Per Mrs. Walters -
"The name "Carlock" is of Franco-German origin, having been
anglicized
from the surname "Gerlach". At various times it has been spelled
Gerlag, Geralug, Gerlach, Calough, Kerlock, etc. From the seventh
century to a period near the end of the seventeenth century, the
Carlock family lived in the district of France now known as
Alsace-Lorraine. Having been converted to Protestantism, the
family moved to the Palatinate, a Protestant Colony in Southwestern
Germany. It has been estimated that the they remained there for a
period of 25 to 50 years and they acquired the language and customs
of the Germans as well as German husbands and wives.
Because of the utter destruction of the Palatinate by King Louis XIV
of France in 1689, the Carlocks found themselves refugees fleeing to
Holland. In the year 1709 Queen Anne of England gave refuge to
thousands of Palatinates, including the Carlocks.
The arrivals of these refugees were carefully listed at ports of
entry under the supervision of the London Board of Trade. These lists have
been preserved in the British Museum and Public Record Office, London
England, and copies have been made for the New York Record, 41:7.
Following is an extract: "Board of Trade Miscellanies, Vol 2; Nos. D69 and
D70; Huntsman Conrad Gerlach, age 49 and wife; two sons age 7 and 5;
two daughters age 16 and 11; arrived at St. Catherine's London,
1709.
At the same time the Palatinates landed in England and made their
way to London, there were five chiefs of the Mohawk Indian Nation
visiting
Queen Anne. Hearing of these people, the Indians volunteered to set
apart certain lands in the Mohawk Valley in New York if the Queen
would direct them to be taken thither. There detention having been
quite expensive for the Queen, she willingly accepted their
proposition and at Christmas, 1709, she hired ten ships to take the
refugees across the water.
After a long and perilous voyage, they reached New York on June 17,
1710. In Volume III Documentary History of New York, the entry says,
"Coenraad Gerlach, arrived in New York with 3,000 Palatinates from
the Palatinate, Germany, via Holland and England"."
The above is on page 38 of her papers. I have not validated any of the above
except going to Providence and Midway Cemeteries. The following headstone
pictures were taken:

Married Irvin Manton Corban/Corbin in Franklin County, MS on 3/14/1900 and then divorced. Whe had four children if I am not mistaken by this Corban and then gave birth to another child, a son, with a Luther Corban/Corbin in Adams Co., MS. I have been told that she is the daughter of Robert Newton and Mary Mulkey Carlack, but when I look up those names, all I find is a son. Thank you for any information you can pass my way!

This is in reply to the posting to the RootsWeb CARLOCK Message Board earlier today titled "Looking for Info on Meta/Meda Nita Carlock/Carlack-Mississippi," in reference to Meda CARLACK-CORBIN.
Do you have any further information to help identify this individual, such as race, dates, a timeframe, a town or county name, her husband's full name, or the names of any of her children?
