I have several additions and corrections to make to the articles titled "351 FAMILY OF FREDERICK CARLOCK, SR. (1720- ?)," and "352 FAMILY OF GEORGE CARLOCK (1740-1815)," which I originally submitted for publication approximately three years ago to be included in the book "The Heritage of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, 1763-2003," which has finally been published this year. Those articles appear on pages 143 and 144 of the above-mentioned book. My additions and corrections will follow in separate postings.
Comments about other CARLOCK/CARELOCK family material included in the book can be found at the following sites:

I also submitted the article titled "606 CHRISTOPHER LANDIS (CA 1710 - BY 1771)," which appears on pages 272 and 273 of the same book. Comments about LANDIS, LANDERS, GUTKNECHT, and GOODNIGHT information found in the book can be found at the following sites:

Does anyone know if there is any way I can edit one of the articles which I submitted to the Old Mecklenburg County Heritage Book Project a few years ago when they had their original deadline? I have since discovered an error in that information which I would like to correct before the book is published.

Subject: Mecklenburg County, NC, CARELOCK photographs and/or articles still needed
The Original Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Heritage Book Project has extended their deadline for submitting articles to January 15, 2003. I did meet the original deadline and submit two articles on the very early CARLOCK family of Mecklenburg Co., including some information on the early CARELOCK family. I would urge anyone with information or photographs of the more recent CARELOCK family in Mecklenburg County to submit either photographs or an article to the project organizers. If you live in the area, you might even want to attend one of the family history writing workshops, such as the one mentioned below, sponsored by the project organizers. This is a wonderful opportunity to preserve information about the CARELOCK family living in Mecklenburg County for future generations. You do not necessarily need to be able to connect your Mecklenburg County CARELOCK family to the early CARELOCK family in order to submit photographs and articles.

Following is the site describing the Original (formerly "Old") Mecklenburg County Heritage Book Project 1763 - 2002: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncomchs/
As far as I can tell, no-one has yet submitted an article for the CARLOCK/CARELOCK family of Mecklenburg Co., NC. I have not done enough original research on this subject to write an article myself. If you have any expertise on the CARLOCK/CARELOCK family of Mecklenburg Co., NC, either past or present, please consider submitting an article for this book. It would be a shame not to have our CARLOCK/CARELOCK family represented in this book. Articles are being accepted from both current and past residents of Mecklenburg Co., NC, as well as anyone with ancestors who lived in Mecklenburg Co., NC. David CARLOCK's son Frederick (b. 1720) migrated to Mecklenburg Co., NC, and is known to have CARELOCK descendants still living in that area today. Articles are being sought for any generation previously or presently living in Mecklenburg Co., NC.

Descendant of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, probable grandson of Frederick

This is in reply to two requests I have received today for information about ordering a copy of the recently-published book titled "The Heritage of Old Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, 1763 - 2003." See my Mar. 1, 2006, posting to the CARLOCK list, listed below, titled "CARLOCK Family of Mecklenburg Co., NC," which includes ordering information. I do not know if copies are still available for sale.
In addition to the correction to that original posting, also listed below, I have also posted the following comments to the material found in the above-mentioned book. Additional postings may follow as I continue sorting through the information contained in the book.

The long-awaited "The Heritage of Old Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, 1763 - 2003" book has finally been published. I just received my copy in the mail yesterday.
A very limited number of copies of this book are still available for sale. I am told the cost is now $72, which includes shipping. Contact Sheila Weaver at the following e-mail address ASAP is you are interested in purchasing a copy, as the remaining copies are expected to be sold within just a few days:
sheilaw(a)webkorner.com
The book is 475 pages long, with large pages and small print.
I have only skimmed the book so far. It does include the following references to the CARLOCK and CARELOCK families:
1. Pg. 68: Article titled "189 CONCORD: THE BEGINNING," which includes the following: "The small 26-acre parcel of land on which Concord was built has grown to over 50,000 square miles and the original 37 landowners have grown to an increased population corresponding to this land annexation. The original land owners were: ... David Carlock/Carelock ..."
2. Pgs. 113 - 114, "Article, including photographs, submitted by Martha B. RUDISILL of Hendersonville, NC, titled "280 CHARLES FREDERICK BLACK AND ANNIE ELIZABETH BLACK," which includes the following: "My grandparents, Charles Jefferson Black and Annie Elizabeth Black, were both born in Mecklenburg Co., N.C., and their families have lived there for many generations. ... Annie was born on Aug. 13, 1873, in Mint Hill. She was the daughter of Hampton Wade Black (1808-1887) and Margaret Eleanor Morrison (1832-1899). ... Margaret Eleanor was the daughter of William Stanhope Morrison (1810-1860) and Helena Thelma Karr (1811-1894). ... Helena Karr was the daughter of David Karr (1776-1848) and Eleanor Cerlock (1785-1860)."
3. Pgs. 127 - 128: Article titled "317 WILLIAM BROOKS II AND MARY BURLESON," which includes the following: "William Brooks II and Mary Burleson's children were born in the part of Anson County that later became Union County. Their children were: ... (3) Jane Brooks, born Nov. 26, 1807, died in 1849, married Samuel Carelock, the son of George Carelock and grandson of Frederick Carelock, Sr."
4. Pg. 143: Article submitted by me titled "351 FAMILY OF FREDERICK CARLOCK, SR. (1720 - ?)."
5. Pgs. 143 - 144: Article submitted by me titled "352 FAMILY OF GEORGE CARLOCK (1740 - 1815)." Note that I believe I do have a correction to make to this material as it was submitted several years ago. I will write more on this in a separate posting after I have had a chance to go over the material.
6. Pg. 220: Article titled "510 CHRISTOPHER ANDREAS GUTHMANN/GOODMAN," which includes the following: "In July 1774 Christopher Guthmann purchased 100 acres of Dutch Buffalo Creek and Rocky River from Mary and Conrad Carlock ..."
7. Pgs. 272 - 273: Article submitted by me titled "CHRISTOPHER LANDIS (CA. 1710 - BY 1771)," which also includes information about his son-in-law Hans Michael "Michael" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT and Michael's brothers George "Gerick" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT and Christian GUTKNECHT, as well as how President Harry S. TRUMAN is descended from both Christopher LANDIS and Hans Michael GOODNIGHT. Although the CARLOCK family is not mentioned in this article, these individuals are ancestors of Rachel LANDERS, wife of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, who is mentioned in the article on page 143 titled "351 FAMILY OF FREDERICK CARLOCK, SR. (1720 - ?)."
8. Pg. 380: Article titled "845 SQUIRE STEVENS," which includes the following: "Squire Stevens was the eldest son of Emanuel and Sarah Abbott Stevens. ... He married Hannah, the daughter of William and Margaret Houston in 1797. ... All of his children were born in Mecklenburg County, but several began moving west with their families. Children of Squire and Hannah are: ... viii. Hannah, 1814-1906. She died in Pittsburg, Camp Co., Tx.; married Thomas Carlock."
9. "Pgs. 385 - 386: Article titled "856 JACOB TEEM AND SUSANNA ROSE BEAVER," which includes the following: "On January 16, 1788 Jacob and Susanna sold Adam Teem, for 200 pounds, 300 acres on both sides of Hamby Run adjoining Shaffner, John Cagle, Frederick Kerlough, Peter Rape, and Charles Barnhart. On January 26, 1789 Adam Deem sold to Jacob Deem, for 50 pounds, 132 acres on Coldwater Creek adjoining Thomas Voli, George Carlock, Jacob Shafner, James Cortis, Phillip Wiser, and Jno. Baddle. In 1789 Jacob Deem sold to his son Peter Deem, for one silver dollar, 125 acres on both sides of Hambey Run of Rocky River, where Jacob Deem now lives, adjoining Charles Barnhart and Frederick Cerlock."

I have several Littletons that have gotten lost after I traced them to
Cabarrus and Mecklenburg. Are there any LITTLETON's in this new book?
I'm well aware of the ones that married Carlocks and moved to IL but I'm
interested in the earlier Littletons.
Many thanks -

This is a follow-up to my Mar. 1, 2006, postings to the CARLOCK, CARELOCK, and CEARLOCK lists regarding the recently published book titled "The Heritage of Old Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, 1763 - 2003."
With regard to the article on page 380 titled "845 SQUIRE STEVENS," note that, in addition to Hannah STEVENS, wife of Thomas CARLOCK, another daughter of Squire STEVENS and Hannah HOUSTON is listed as follows: "vii. Nancy, 1812- aft. 1878. She died in Moody, McLennan Co., Tx.; married John Karr." These are also members of the CARLOCK family. John KARR was s/o David KARR and Eleanor "Nellie" CERLOCK/KERLOCK. Eleanor was d/o George CARLOCK/KERLOCK/CERLAUGH and Fanny Mildren PLEMONS. For further information about this family, see the article titled "352 FAMILY OF GEORGE CARLOCK (1740-1815), compiled by me, which appears on pages 143 and 144 of this same book.
The above-mentioned Thomas CARLOCK who married Hannah STEVENS was Thomas Tillman CARLOCK, Sr. (s/o John CARLOCK, Sr.; Frederick CARLOCK; Frederick CARLOCK/CARELOCK; David GERLACH/CARLOCK; Hans GERLACH). Thomas Tillman CARLOCK, Sr., is mentioned on pages 615, 617, and 630 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. However, Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK lists Thomas's ancestry as s/o John, George, Frederick, David, which I believe to be incorrect.

Subject: Past and present CARLOCK and CARELOCK families of Mecklenburg Co., NC
Susan Cearlock Tilleman
Descendant of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, probable grandson of Frederick
