I found this on the KY search site.
Descendants of George W. Carlock may already know about it. But here
it is:
The Read/Duncan Family of Allen County, KY File Contributed by: Willis
P. Oliver 2/10/1997
The Read/Duncan Family of Allen County, KY
The following is my transcription of two 1889 newspaper clippings which
provide wonderful details about the lives and history of theRead/Duncan
family of Fauquier Co.,VA and Allen Co., KY. I made everyeffort to
retain the original spelling, punctuation and grammar.
The two clippings were in a two-ring binder which belonged to
mygreat-grandmother, Nancy Helen (Carlock) Groves (19 August 1843-1
Feb.1935, Hermleigh, TX), whose mother was Kitty Virginia Read (13
December1815- ca 1845), wife of George W. Carlock. Kitty was born
CatharineVirginia Read, daughter of Robert C. and Nancy Read, and
granddaughter ofJohn and E. Read of Culpeper Co., Va.Willis P.

Three Happy Brothers
They Were Married in 1839 and Will, With Their Wives CelebrateTheir
Golden Weddings During the Summer or Autumn.
One Brother Lives in Allen County, Another in Simpson County, andthe
Third in Louisville. The Remarkable Kindness with Which Fortune Has
Treated the Membersof the Read Family. An unusual event is to occur
this year in Kentucky.
In 1839, three brothers, Samuel J., Edmond D. F., and TraverseArthur
Read, all then living in Allen County this State, were married tothree
of Kentucky's daughters. All three of these brothers who started onthe
matrimonial voyage the same year, and their wives are alive and
welltoday, and the six old people propose to have a grand family
gathering tocelebrate together their golden weddings. Although the
snows of half acentury have bleached the locks of their younger days,
and their forms andfaces bear the imprint of old Father Time, the
feelings of these sixestimable people are still as fresh as in the days
when the brothersa-courting went. The grand event of the year is looked
forward to by themwith a pleasant anxiety, exceeded only by that
preceding those otherweddings of the long ago.
In 1810 Mr. Theopolis Read, a native of Fauquier county, Virginia, moved
to Allen county, Kentucky and settled there. His family consisted
atthast time of four young sons and his wife, who was Miss Margaret
Duncan ofCulpeper county, Virginia. Mrs. Read, the mother of the
subjects of thissketch was the Aunt of Hon. James G. Fields, a gallant
Confederate leaderand former Attorney General of Virginia. He is now
practicing law atCulpeper C. H. Virginia.

This is in reply to Katheryn HADDAD's posting to the CARLOCK list today titled "Documents of Carlocks in NC". It will take me a long time to sift through all of the information Katheryn provided. I am very much interested in this material because I am still searching for information regarding the ancestry of my direct ancestor, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC.
With regard to the excerpt from Katheryn's material which follows this message, Henry GOODNIGHT of Mason Co., KY, was an uncle to my George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK's (b. ca. 1779, NC) wife Rachel LANDERS. Both Rachel's mother Catherine GOODNIGHT LANDERS and Henry GOODNIGHT were children of Hans Michael "Michael" GOODNIGHT and his first wife.
At this point I am not sure whether the "Frederick Carlack" who lived next to Henry GOODNIGHT was the elder or the younger Frederick CARLOCK. If anyone can identify which Frederick this was, please let me know.
The significance of this record to me is that it establishes a connection between Frederick's family and the in-laws of my George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, providing further evidence for my belief that George is somehow descended from the elder Frederick CARLOCK.
Also of note in this excerpt are the names Col. Martin PHIFFER, Benjamin SHINN, and George RODGERS. According to pages 215 and 615 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, George CARLOCK (s/o Frederick, David), b. 1740, "served as a private soldier in Captain Martin Pfifer's 2nd Troop North Carolina Light Horse Dragoons from Mecklenburg County." George's daughter Rebecca married a SHINN, first name not yet identified.
With regard to the surname ROGERS, see "ORIGINAL MESSAGE #1" below in which I am attempting to find the connection between a Joseph ROGERS mentioned in a 1787 Mecklenburg Co., NC, court record which also included the names Christopher LANDESS and Henry KERLOCK. Christopher LANDESS was a grandfather of my George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK's (b. ca. 1779, NC) wife Rachel LANDERS. Christopher LANDESS's daughter Mary also married the above-mentioned Hans Michael "Michael" GOODNIGHT as his second wife.
The following excerpt can be found on page 209 of the book "William Moore GOODNIGHT of Johnson County, Missouri, 1875 - 1951", by Veda GOODNIGHT JONES and Mabel GOODNIGHT STEVENSON:
"Henry, ... son of Michael and his first wife, married Elizabeth (Condor?). On August 7, 1787 he obtained a North Carolina Land Grant (#674) for 39 1/2 acres on Buffalo Creek. This creek was not named on our map of Cabarrus County, but we were told that it ran along the south side of the present town of Concord. Henry sold this tract in two parcels. One (28 3/4 acres} to George Condor on August 21, 1792, the other (10 3/4 acres) to John Morgadnt (?) on May 25, 1793."
This portion of Mecklenburg County became Cabarrus County in 1792.

Subject: [ROGERS] Joseph ROGERS and the orphans of Christopher LANDESS, 1787, Mecklenburg Co., NC
Can anyone identify the Joseph ROGERS mentioned in an Oct., 1787,
Mecklenburg Co., NC, court record as having to pay money to Henry
KERLOCK that he received for the orphans of Christopher LANDESS,
deceased, namely Jacob, Felix, and Elizabeth? I am related to both this
CARLOCK/KERLOCK family and this LANDESS/LANDIS family, but have not yet
determined what Henry KERLOCK's relationship was to the LANDESSes in
1787. Henry KERLOCK was living in nearby Rutherford Co., NC, at the
time. I would also like to determine the relationship between Joseph
ROGERS and the LANDESSes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Susan Cearlock Tilleman
I am coming to believe more and more strongly that the father of my
William Vance Carlock (b. 1795; d.c. 1840 Stoddard Co., MO) is David
Carlock found in Warren Co., KY.
1. Wm. named his first son after himself, and his second son David.
2. Wm. is connected to John D. Carlock, also of Warren Co., KY, as
follows:
1838: May 26, William Vance Carlock and Fanny his wife sold to John D.
Carlock for $100 the following 20 acres in Stoddard Co., MO:
One undivided half of the
South East quarter of the
South East quarter of
Section No One in
Township number Twenty five
North of Range No. Ten East
[Source: Stoddard Co., MO, Deed Bk. A, Pg. 53]
1838: May 26 John D. Carlock mortaged the following 40 acres to
William Wray:
North West quarter of the
North West quarter of
Section No. 23
Town. No. 26
North of Range 10 East
....and another 40 acres:
South West quarter of the
South West quarter of
Section No. ?
Town. 26
North of 10 East
[Source: Stoddard Co., MO, Deed Bk. A, Pg. 54-55]
So this gave John D. Carlock a total of 180 Acres.
What do you KY Carlock descendants think?
I'll send you more clues later. This is plenty for now.

I have finally been able to connect the CURLOCK family of Jefferson Co., IL, to my CARLOCK/CEARLOCK family of nearby Fayette and Montgomery Counties. David CARLOCK/KEARLOCK/CURLOCK (s/o Jacob CARLOCK/CARELOCK, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK), b. 1838/39, probably Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY; m.#1. Rebecca OSBORN, Aug. 29, 1857, Montgomery Co., IL, and divorced ca. 1858, Jefferson Co., IL; m.#2. Elizabeth "Bets" BOOK, Nov. 9, 1858, Jefferson Co., IL, and divorced ca. 1864, Jefferson Co., IL; m.#3. Elizabeth TURMAN, Jan. 1, 1866, Jefferson Co., IL; d. Aug. 16, 1906, May, Garland Co., AR. Note that some of David's children used the surname BOOK instead of the surname CURLOCK. Military pension papers also show that David lived in Lamar Co., TX, in 1884. David is mistakenly listed as "Daniel" in some records, probably due to the handwriting on his marriage license to Elizabeth "Bets" BOOK which could easily be mistaken for "Daniel". David was also a private in Company I, 60th !
Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War.
Information about David and his descendants can be found in the following report which appears on my homepage: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE18-... . Since the exact lineage of David's grandfather George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, has not yet been determined, David's lineage appears as follows in my report at this time:
Hans GERLACH
David GERLACH/CARLOCK
Frederick Cornelius CARLOCK
unknown CARLOCK (anc. of G. CARLOCK, ca. 1779)
George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK
Jacob CARLOCK/CARELOCK
David CARLOCK/KEARLOCK/CURLOCK
Any additional information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

I am forwarding this information on to the list for

information is recognizable to some of you.
Andrea would Love to hear from any family members, or
any information on this family.
"My immediate family tree is as follows:

My dad was Brian who passed away suddenly in 2001 and
who the
information
comes from via a cousin - we found all this and more
in his paperwork
and
never knew he had it.
This is why I am trying to carry it on for him!
The family were born in Croydon but were moved to
Manchester during the
evacuation as children in the war and all settled
there afterwards as
my
grandparents felt it was a better place to bring them
up - cheaper
housing I
assume!! Also it was my grandmother's birthplace!
I also have another part of the tree going back even
further which I
know
connects directly to two names I have seen on your

Canada and another Brian Killick born the same year as
my dad 1933 who would be a distant cousin of my dad.
