Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
For those of you who are not already aware of this, Ancestry.com recently purchased Rootsweb.com. In an effort to consolidate resources, they created the new Ancestry.com message board system which combines and replaces the old GenConnect message boards on RootsWeb.com and the old FamilyHistory.com message boards. The new boards are still "Gatewayed" to this mailing list, which means that postings also automatically post to this list. Unfortunately, the new boards do not indicate that the message is coming from the boards, so we will occasionally get postings to this list which appear as if we have jumped in the middle of a conversation. Furthermore, all seven previous categories of GenConnect boards have now been combined into one category. The new boards also require a log-in and password, which can easily be created free-of-charge. These new boards can be accessed through the following URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=main&r=rw.
This in no way affects the GenForum boards, which are not connected with Ancestry.com. Unfortunately, I am unable to "Gateway" the GenForum boards to this mailing list, so they require a little more effort to keep up-to-date with current postings. The GenForum boards can be accessed through the following URL: http://genforum.genealogy.com/my/.
As you probably already know, all of the Rootsweb mailing lists, including this one, are also archived and can be accessed through the following URL: http://navigation.helper.realnames.com/framer/1/262/default.asp?realname=.... Rootsweb also has a search feature which can be accessed through the following URL: http://searches.rootsweb.com/.
I also continue to use the "Related Links" section of my home page to list noteworthy links to other sources of information for this surname. The URL for my home page is: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/index.h....
Another useful search engine is the Genealogy.com search engine for the FamilyTreeMaker home pages. The URL for that search engine is: http://www.genealogy.com/ifftop.html.

Heads up! I was looking for someone else and ran into FRANCIS GERLECK, a single man, in Colebrookdale Township, Berks County, PA. 1752 tax list.
Check www.rootsweb.com/~GENHOME. I found it through Brenda's Guide to PA. Genealogy. An EXCELLENT SITE.

This is in reply to the following messages regarding the family of George W. CARLOCK which appeared on the CEARLOCK list yesterday. First, I would like to point out that there were at least nine different George W. CARLOCKs, as well as at least four George CARLOCKs with no middle name listed in the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. Note that both my direct ancestor George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (ca. 1779 - ca. 1862) and George Washington CARLOCK (1812 - 1862) have descendants who spelled their name "CEARLOCK".
1. George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (ca. 1779 - ca. 1862) is not listed in the above-mentioned book, and I cannot yet positively identify his lineage from the original GERLACH/CARLOCK immigrants. This George is most likely somehow descended from David GERLACH/CARLOCK who is listed on page 436 of the above-mentioned book, possibly through his son Frederick who migrated to Mecklenburg Co., NC. Further discussion about the lines of both this George and George Washington CARLOCK (1812 - 1862) can be found in the archives of the CEARLOCK list through the following URL: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/c/cearlock.html.
This George was b. ca. 1779, NC; m. Rachel LANDERS, 11 Oct 1805, Warren Co., KY; and d. ca. 1862, possibly Montgomery Co., IL. (Note that Rachel's family came from Mecklenburg Co., NC, and that Mecklenburg Co. court records mention a Henry KERLOCK in connection with the orphans of her grandfather Christopher LANDIS.) This George migrated to Fayette Co., IL, as also did William CARLOCK (b. 1814, Warren Co., KY), listed on page 440 of "History of the Carlock Family", brother to George Washington CARLOCK (1812 - 1862), listed below.
2. George W. CARLOCK (1812 - 1862) can be found listed on page 438 of the book "History of the CARLOCK Family", and pictured on page 439 of that same book. The book says that this George (s/o John, Lemuel, Hanchrist, David) was b. 25 Apr 1812, Allen Co., KY; m#1. Kitty Virginia READ; m#2. Elvira SMITH; and d. 17 Feb 1862, Warren Co., KY. Some descendants of this George went to Texas and Oklahoma.
3. George W. CARLOCK (s/o Joseph Taylor, Joseph, Lemuel, Hanchrist, David) can be found on page 440 of the above-mentioned book. The book does not list birth and death dates for this individual, but does say that he m. Mary JONES and "served with northwestern Ga. troops with rank of Capt. in Confederate Army". His father was born in 1802, and lived in Walker Co., Ga.
4. George William CARLOCK (b. 1845), (s/o Henry, George Osborn, Abraham, Hanchrist, David) can be found on page 463 of "History of the Carlock Family. According to the book, he was b. 26 Jun 1845; m. Rachel N. CANADY; and resided in Gentry, MO.
5. George W. CARLOCK (1848 - 1858) (s/o Abraham Depew, Lewis, John, John, Johann Christian) can be found on page 419 of "History of the Carlock Family". According to the book, he was b. 12 Dec 1848, and d. 7 Jan 1858.
6. George W. CARLOCK (1854 - 1879) (s/o Winton, Reuben, Abraham, Hanchrist, David) can be found on page 451 of the above-mentioned book. According to the book, he was b. 18 Jun 1854; m. Mary Elizabeth WEST; and d. 7 Jul 1879 without issue.
7. George W. CARLOCK (b. 1857) (s/o William Jackson, Abraham, Hanchrist, David) can be found on page 507 of the book. He was reportedly born 27 Feb, 1857, was a "bachelor", and resided in Bath, IL.
8. George William CARLOCK (b. 1862), (s/o Madison P., Abraham Willard, Abraham, Hanchrist, David) can be found on pages 472 and 475 of "History of the Carlock Family". According to the book, this George was b. 4 Jun 1862, Logan Co., IL; m. Ellen May MARTIN, 28 Feb 1884; and was a brother to Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, author of the book.
9. George William CARLOCK (b. 1926), (s/o George Daniel, Madison Henry, George William, Henry, George Osborn, Abraham, Hanchrist, David) can be found on page 470 of the book. The book lists his birthdate as 28 Dec 1926.
I have reports on my home which include some of these George CARLOCKs. The URL for my home page is: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/index.h.... Note that I also have a great deal of data which I have not yet entered into these two reports.
George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (ca. 1779 - ca. 1862), my direct ancestor, can be found in the report on my home page titled "User Home Page Genealogy Report: Descendants of CARLOCK", Generation 2, Person 2. I am listed under Generation 10, Person 163. I am the d/o Rex Duane "Duane" CEARLOCK, Voris Carney CEARLOCK, Claude Abner CEARLOCK, Joseph Edward "Ed" CEARLOCK, James Robert "Robert" CEARLOCK, John Henry CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, Abraham CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, and George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK.
George Washington CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (1812 - 1862) can be found in the report on my home page titled "User Home Page Genealogy Report: Descendants of Hans GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK", Generation 6, Person 109.
Other George CARLOCKs listed in "History of the Carlock Family" without middle names are:
1. George CARLOCK (s/o Frederick, David), b. 1740, Shenandoah Valley, VA; d. 1815, Mecklenburg Co., NC. Listed on pages 437 and 615.
2. George CARLOCK (s/o Heinrich "Henry", Juriaen, Conrad), b. Oct 1773; m. Elizabeth LOZIER. Listed on page 429.
3. George CARLOCK (s/o John D., _____, _____, Conrad), b. 10 Nov 1833. Listed on page 434.
4. George CARLOCK (s/o James Calvin, "Eber", George, Frederick, David). No birth or death date listed. Father born 1822, TN, and migrated to Union Co., IL. Listed on page 618.

I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS LINE ALSO. TEX (REAL NAME SOLLIE) WILLIAMS WAS MY MOTHER-IN- LAWS COUSIN. WHEN HE FIRST STARTED SINGING PROFESSIONALLY SHE LOANED HIM HER GUITAR. I ONLY HAVE NAMES FOR 4 OF HIS SIBLINGS AND I BELIEVE THERE WERE 14 CHILDREN IN ALL.
This is in response to the following message which I received from Katheryn HADDAD today. What information do you have for your William Vance CARLOCK that would distinguish him from the William Vance CARLOCK who you say is listed in "History of the Carlock Family" and "who finally ended up in Tx. where he died"? Also, do you know either on what page the William Vance CARLOCK in the book is listed or his lineage back to the original GERLACH/CARLOCK immigrants?

This is in reply to the following posting to the CARLOCK list yesterday by Anita CORBUS (corbus(a)qwest.net). Yes, we are referring to the same David CARLOCK. Additional information about David can be found in the report on my home page titled "User Home Page Genealogy Report: Descendants of Hans GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK". The URL for my home page is: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/index.h.... See Generation 2, Person 10 David GERLACH/CARLOCK, and his 5 children. David and his family also appear on page 436 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. Furthermore, a search for Hans GERLACH who married Anna Maria KUMMER at the following site will bring up a family group sheet for David's family of origin: http://www.familysearch.org/.

I have a David Carlock born in 1679 in Palatinate Germany, he fled to Holland and then was found in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia in 1741. Would this be the same David that you mentioned in the following posting? I

Subject: CARLOCK, GARLOCK, and GARLICK Descendants of Hans GERLACH, b. 1632, Heidelberg, Germany
Ted:
Thank you for the information about the family of David Gaston GARLICK. This confirms that Hans GERLACH, b. 1632, Heidelberg, Germany, did indeed have some descendants in America who used the spelling GARLICK! Three of Hans's sons migrated to America, Conrad GERLACH/CARLOCK, Johann Christian GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK, and David GERLACH/CARLOCK. Hans GERLACH's descendants who used the spelling GARLICK are most likely descended from Johann Christian, but I do not yet know the exact connection. According to pages 30 - 32 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion
Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, "Both Conrad and Johann first settled at Livingston Manor on the Hudson in New York. ... Conrad finally drifted down the Hudson to
Fort Lee, now Bergen County, New Jersey, where he raised his family and Johann went to the Schoharie-Mohawk Valley, New York, where he was the leader and one of twenty-seven head men to get an Indian title to 12,700 acres of land known as the 'Stone Arabia' patent. ... Many of the New York, New Jersey and Ohio Carlocks are descended from Conrad Carlock.
Johann Christian ... never left the Mohawk Valley. ... Johann Christian Garlock is the progenitor of most of the Carlocks and Garlocks of New York.
It is known from both history and tradition that because of the alleged ill treatment of the Palatines in New York, word was sent back to England and Holland that New York had treated them badly and for their relatives
and friends not to come there but to seek passage on ships bound for Philadelphia. It is thought that David Carlock ... took this advice and came in via Philadelphia. ... David Carlock ... emigrated with others across southern Pennsylvania into western Virginia. ...
... David Carlock of Augusta County, Virginia, is the progenitor of practically all Carlocks in America, Canada and Mexico with the exception of those in New Jersey, New York, Indiana and a few in Ohio."

This is in reply to the following e-mail which I received from Cathy COOK (ccook(a)olynet.com). I will make note of these changes, but will not be able to immediately correct the report on my home page as my database crashed earlier this year and I am now having to reinput all of my data before updating the reports on my home page.
I welcome any changes or additions that anyone may have to offer. I eventually hope to include most of the people listed in the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, in the report on my home page titled "User Home Page: Descendants of Hans GERLACH/GARLOCK/CARLOCK", as well as to combine that report with the report titled "User Home Page Genealogy Report: Descendants of CARLOCK", which includes the descendants of my gggggg-grandfather George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC. Once I have entered the information from the book into my database, my database will be able to serve as a sort of index for the book.

Subject: name corrections to web page
Marion Pomeroy Carlock made a few errors in his book --
Samuel, the son of Susannah Carlock & Uriah S. Wells was named Samuel Monroe Wells. (He had a son named Samuel Arthur "Art" Wells.) Samuel Monroe Wells married Sarah Ellen Puckett, the daughter of Joseph Puckett & Mary Holloway. Samuel & Ellen's daughter Mary Adele "Della" Wells married 1st Walter Robert Crabtree (my grandparents).
I can supply just a few documentary records & Samuel's grave stone photo and Mary Adele (Wells) Crabtree Burscough's grave stone photo & obit. Samuel M., Sarah Ellen, Mary Adele and other family members including my parents are buried in Emmett, Idaho.
