I recently purchased a wonderful old Victorian studio photograph (Cabinet Portrait) of
“Chas. Carlysle” at an antique shop in Forest Park, IL. I realize that this is a Carlisle
board, but I hope someone can relate to him. I enjoy buying lovely old pictures like
these in antique shops (pictures with names on the back) and locating descendants/family
members so that I can re-unite the pictures, for only my costs, with the people who will
treasure them.
The picture was taken by by "J. E. Watson" Studio of 41-43 Monroe Avenue,
Detroit, MI in ca 1890, by my estimate. Charles appears to be about age age 20-25 in the
photo, and is a handsome young man.
He is cleanshaven, with dark hair, and dark eyes and is wearing a topcoat and high necked
shirt. The picture is an original, on heavy card stock (4- ½” x 6- ½”) as was typical
during that time period, and it is in excellent condition. If you have Carlysle family
members from the Detroit area, or if you can relate to Charles Carlysle, please Email me
directly at margerice(a)prodigy.net.
