I too have been trying to find the origin of G W & Margaret Carlisle (my
greatgrandparents). If the Nathan in Pike Co is the same one that turns up in Fayette Co
in 1860, then he appears to be related to a Dred Carlisle. As Dred & family are next
door to Nathan & Nancy Carlisle. Also one of Nathan's daughters has the same name
as Dred's wife. The reason I started looking in Pike Co for Carlisle's was because
of the land record from the BLM for Martha Rigsby. She bought land in Pike in 1858. The
land record states that she was from Barbour Co. So somewhere between these 2 Cos must be
G W's family. I haven't had any luck finding G W or Nathan or Dred in 1850. I
don't know whether they were out of reach of the census takers, hiding in a bush or
listed with a misspelled name. I've tried various spellings. Also there is a Nancy
& Dred Carlisle in the 1880 Census in Chickasaw Co MS living with some Colemans. Dred
is listed as 93 yrs old. No sign of Nathan after 1860.
