In Census Records, Asa M. Carlisle, married to Jincy Davis, and the son of John B. and
Elizabeth Carlisle of Lawrence Co., MS, is listed as just that, Asa M. Carlisle or maybe
Asa Carlisle. Does anyone have written confirmation that in Asa M. Carlisle's
lifetime, 1821 - 1891, that the M. in Asa's name stands for Monroe?
The US Govt. issued Land Grant #11715 on Feb. 1, 1859 to ASA MEADOWS CARLISLE of Lawrence
Co., MS. Does anyone have a copy of the application that Asa submitted to acquire this
Land Grant? Perhaps it could verify whether this is the name Asa submitted? It
doesn't seem to me that it's an accident.
I have been trying to determine Elizabeth Carlisle's maiden name; Saunders, Monroe, or
Meadows. (See my post to this board dated Nov. 2012.) This adds to my belief that she may
be Elizabeth Ann Meadows. Several of the boys in the John Carlisle family have an M. as
their middle initial. It would be interesting if the M. stands for Meadows for all of
them, not just for two sons, Thomas and Asa. Another Carlisle Family, Edmund Griffith
Carlisle and his wife Margaret Whatley gave most of their sons the middle initial of W.,
standing for Whatley.
What do you think?
