Subject: Re: [CARLISLE] CARLISLE Digest, Vol 9, Issue 14
Here is an affidavit regarding Edmund G. Carlisle's Revolutionary Service. I
discovered this in an old Georgia newspaper a couple of years ago. This
affidavit links Edmund to Chatham County, NC. I believe there is also a
record of a land sale by Edmund in Chatham County.
W. Hugh Tucker
descendant of Edmund's son, William Whatley Carlisle.
Georgia, Muscogee County.
Be it remembered that I, Daniel Higden, of the County of Muscogee and State
aforesaid, being in perfect mind and memory and viewing the uncertainty of
life, do make the following certificate in favor of my old friend and
acquaitance, Edmund Carlisle, wit: I do certify that said Edmund Carlisle
rendered several towers of duty in the defence of the rights of America
against Great Brittain in the Revolutionary war in the State of North
Carolina; and further, the said Edmund Carlisle did serve with me under
Captain Joseph Jansen and was considered a faithful Whig, and acquitted
himself with honor to his country and credit to himself, to the best of my
recollection. In testimony whereof, I do hereunto set my hand and seal this
Dec. 1st, 1843.
his
Daniel [X] Higden.

James W. Mapey, J.P.
Daniel Higdon served as a Private in Captain Joseph Johnson's (not Jansen)
Chatham County, NC company. In 1780, in Chatham County, Edmund Carlisle
tranferred land to John Petty.
