No. The Y-dna follows only the direct male line. A man gets it from his father, who got
it from the paternal grandfather, so on back. It follows the top line of a pedigree
chart, like the surname does in most cases.
Females do not have a Y chromosome, so are not able to pass it on.
The mtDNA comes through the mother, from her mother, following the bottom of the pedigree
chart back. Everyone has mtDNA but males do not pass it on.
