Message Board Post:
I am searching for any information on David Carlisle or his wife, R. Jane (Bailey)
Carlisle, who lived in Hartwick, Osceola County, Michigan at the time of the 1880 Michigan
Census.
David Carlisle may have been married previous to his marriage to R. Jane. He was born
circa 1843 in Erie County, New York. I don't know when he died or where he was
buried.
R. Jane (Bailey) Carlisle, daughter of Henry and Anna (Welden) Bailey, was born 28 Feb
1842 in Rome, Lenawee Co., MI. She married (1st) Alanson Todd, 2 times a widower, in 1867
in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan and settled in Dorr, Allegan County, Michigan.
They had daughters, Nellie Todd, born in 1868 and Rose Todd, born in 1870. There was a
stillborn child born in 1872. R. Jane also had custody of a stepdaughter (a daughter of
Alanson Todd's 2nd marriage), Lucretia Ellen Todd, born in 1858 in Gratiot County,
Michigan. R. Jane Carlisle died in 1886 at the residence of her brother (unnamed, but he
would have been a Bailey) at Kalkaska, Kalkaska County, Michigan.
Also, I have a whole different question about the same family. Also listed in the 1880
Michigan Census, living in Sylvan Township, Osceola County, was a Charles Carlile, his
wife Lydia, and their son Albert. Charles Carlile and the David Carlisle mentioned above
were about the same age and they both came from New York. Were they brothers?
Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Terri Mulliken Allen
