Hi Jewel!
Have you read an out-of-print book by Nicholas Carlisle called
"Collections for the History of the Ancient Family of Carlisle"? It was
published in London in 1822. I got it sent to me for three weeks on five
microfiches from a library in Connecticut.
It has the descendancies of all known CARLISLEs at that time, down from
the ancient Bruce line. It's fascinating. It probably contains these you
note here.
If you haven't read it, it's a great one to read. There are others by
Nicholas Carlisle as well and they're available too. I was surprised that I
couldn't get the one cited above at the Salt Lake City Family History
Library. Finally my local city library reference librarian found it through
their interlibrary loan capabilities.
My CARLISLEs are as follows:
1 Mary CARLISLE (although I'm not positive about the surname)
sp: Richard HUFFINGTON / HOVINGTON (b c. 1663,, England>Virginia, USA;
mar. ,,Maryland, USA)
2 John HUFFINGTON (b 1680,,England or ,Accomac, Virginia, USA; mar
1711, d 1748,,Delaware, USA)
sp: Mary CARLISLE (hopefully one of these Mary's actually is a
CARLISLE...)
(b 1684,,England>, Accomac, Virginia, USA; d,,Delaware, USA)
Three generations further down:
5 John H. HUFFINGTON (b 1769,, Accomack, Virginia, USA;
mar. 1814, Sussex, Delaware, USA; d 25 Apr 1837,
Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, USA)
sp: Mahalah CARLISLE (for sure) (b 1793, Sussex, Delaware,
USA; d Aft 1823)
Do any of these look familiar to you at all? I'm trying to find the
link back to England. I *think* it might go through Antigua (then known as
"Antiqua").
Good luck to you!
