Hi List,
I have just today started on my CARLISLE family. I don't have many
names only hunches but SO many of my family's names (the females)
have Carlisle or Carlyle as a middle name that it must have been
important to the family.
I have Mary E.J. PARKES whom I believe was CARLISLE or was married
to CARLISLE.
1850 Phillips Co, AR census
Mary E. PARKES 44 SC
Francis (Female) 9 MS
Emily 5 AR
Francis(above) called Fannie married Benjamin Franklin Bowden and
they had my great grandmother, Mary "Minnie" Carlyle Bowden. Her
brother was Ben Allen Bowden.
When Mary "Minnie Carlyle Bowden married Andrew Martin they named
one of their girls "Carlisle" in the middle too. (She died)
Then, one of my aunts was named Mary Carlisle Martin.
I have heard that one of the earlier women was Laura CARLISLE.
The Bowden family lived in Chester Co, SC, Bedford Co, TN,
Lauderdale Co, AL, DeSoto Co, MS, and Phillips Co and Randolph Co,
AR.
I beieve Mary Carlisle in the 1850 census is listed as being from SC
and in the 1860 census is listed as being from GA.
I know this isn't much to go on but thought I'd try. Thanks for
reading.
Thanks for anything you can share.
