I found out more about him. Turns out we have some family documents on him including a
will, his picture, etc.
I know he was head of the bar for the Supreme Court and represented Columbia, Spain and
some other countries in cases with the U.S. He lived in D.C. One of his legitimate sons
(my half-great, great uncle, James Mandeville Carlisle, Jr.) went to Yale and was part of
the Skull and Cross Bones.
The Davis in my name is probably not a connection you are looking for. It is the result
of my great-grandfather, who was half black, taking a different name because he wanted
nothing to do with his father...the man who wouldn't do right by the mother of his
child only because she was black. Both were unmarried when the affair happened.
As for lawyers, he was of course associated with many, but I haven't found those names
which you referenced in my research. If you search "James Mandeville Carlisle"
in google in quotations, you will find information on him and two of his legitimate sons
James, Jr. and Calderon. Here is one such link:
