Dear Anne,
I'm not sure if we have been in contact with each other before, but if
not, we are cousins. The Rev. Robert Whatley "Robin" Carlisle was my 4th
great-grandfather. His son, Edmund Jefferson Carlisle, was my 3rd
great-grandfather. Rev. Carlisle is buried about 30 minutes north of
where I live up in Mt. Olive, Coosa Co., AL. I've spent years
researching Rev. Carlisle, his brothers, and his parents. I will gladly
help you with what you need if you'll share with me your Carlisle line
and your Cotton line. I also have a Cotton line I'm trying to learn more
about in Chambers and Troup Counties. I have Elizabeth's estate records
as well as many records on her sons, especially Robert W. Carlisle,
William W. Carlisle, and Green W. Carlisle.
I have not proven if she was a Whatley, but tales from the past says she
was. Her oldest son did have middle names of Whatley, and Michael A. J.
Carlisle was defiantly her son and administrator of her estate. He is
also buried next to her in Chambers County. I have pictures of all their
graves. William w. Carlisle is buried in an unmarked grave, but his home
is still standing. Green W. Carlisle is buried down in Brundidge, AL
where he lived. Let me know what you are looking for or need help with,
and I'll try to provide.
Good Luck!

My line is also Edmund Carlisle/Elizabeth Whatley as follows:
Robert Whatley "Robin" Carlisle married Clarissa Ann Mitchell
1826
Newton Co., GA both died Coosa Co., AL
Louisa Serepta Carlisle married John Samuel Monk 1844
Tallapoosa Co.,
AL,
John Carlisle Monk married Virginia Francenia
Cotton 1879 Coosa Co
Annie Virginia Monk my grandmother
I want to know more about Edmund Carlisle and especially about wife
Elizabeth Whatley, who seems to have used the middle name Whatley for
many of her sons. If she was a Whatley by marriage, are we sure of the
marriage date to Edmund Carlisle? Are we sure all those sons with the
Whatley name are Carlisles and not Whatleys by birth?
Or was she a Whatley by birth? Who were her parents?
Why was a daughter named Elizabeth Strickland Carlisle? Is Strickland
a Carlisle name?
One son was Michael Andrew Jackson Carlisle born can 1816--why the
Andrew Jackson, when the other sons had Whatley as a middle name? And
why Michael?
I have another family, Hindsman, from Wilkes Co., GA, and then Coweta
Co. (close to Morgan Co., GA) that connected with the Cotton/Monk line
in Coweta Co., GA, and Coosa Co., AL. They also unexpectedly used the
STRICKLAND name as a middle name about the same time for a son Michael.
Was there an influential Strickland family in the area?
